Sudden cardiac arrest at 2:30 AM… Timely Treatment at Heritage IMS Hospital!

A New Beginning After 3 Years of Being Bedridden

A patient suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis who had been bedridden for nearly three years has been given a new lease on life at Heritage IMS Hospital, Varanasi.

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Anil Kumar Rai, Department of Orthopedics and a dedicated multidisciplinary team, the patient successfully underwent four major surgeries—bilateral hip replacement and bilateral knee replacement. One of the biggest challenges was administering anesthesia due to complete neck stiffness, which was safely managed using advanced fiber-optic laryngoscopy.

Following the surgeries, the patient received specialized hydraulic physiotherapy and continuous rehabilitation. As a result, the patient has now regained the ability to sit independently and has started walking with support, marking a remarkable milestone after three years of immobility.

The treatment was provided under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, ensuring that the patient received comprehensive care without financial burden.
