💔 Why do some people keep cheating despite promising to change?
After an affair is discovered, many partners desperately want to believe that things will be different. Apologies are made. Promises are given. Hope returns.
But while anyone can make a mistake, repeated infidelity often reflects a deeper pattern rather than a one-time lapse.
People may repeatedly cheat for various reasons—seeking validation, chasing excitement, struggling with impulse control, fearing genuine intimacy, or believing they can have both commitment and novelty. Understanding these reasons may provide insight, but it does not excuse the behavior.
Perhaps the most important lesson is this:
Trust is rebuilt through consistent actions, not repeated promises.
If you find yourself asking, "Will they change?", it may also be worth asking:
"What is this relationship doing to my mental health?"
Healthy relationships are built on trust, honesty, respect, and emotional safety. When betrayal becomes a recurring pattern, the emotional cost can be significant—leading to anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion.
🌿 Sometimes clarity begins when we stop focusing on changing the other person and start focusing on protecting our own well-being.
