Today I celebrated Doctor's Day in the best way I knew how—by conducting a free health awareness session at Euphoria School for Playgroup, Nursery, and LKG children.
We spoke about hygiene, healthy eating habits, good habits, good touch & bad touch, and I did health check-ups for the little ones.
Then I asked them,
"Who wants to become a doctor?"
Almost every hand went up.
And I froze.
For the first time in my life, I didn't know how to encourage them.
How could I tell these innocent children that becoming a doctor means sacrificing your youth studying for nearly a decade, only to spend your career fighting for dignity?
How do I tell them that doctors have to justify even their basic consultation fees?
That resident doctors, RMOs, and even medical college faculty are often underpaid despite carrying enormous responsibility?
That healthcare workers are assaulted in hospitals for outcomes that are not always in human hands?
And as a homoeopathic doctor... the battle is even lonelier. We fight not only diseases but also prejudice, mockery, and the constant need to prove that our years of education and our patients' trust matters.
No child dreams of growing up to beg for respect.
No doctor enters medicine expecting applause.
But every doctor deserves safety, dignity, and fair compensation.
Today, I couldn't tell those children, "Yes, become a doctor." Because I couldn't lie to them.
Instead, I silently prayed that by the time they grow up, this country will have learned to value the people who dedicate their lives to healing others.
Until then, we'll keep showing up.
We'll keep healing.
We'll keep smiling through exhaustion.
And we'll keep hoping that someday, doctors won't have to fight for the very respect they have already earned.
With a heavy heart...
Happy Doctor's Day to every doctor who is still standing, despite everything. ❤️
