The velum interpositum (VI) is a thin, triangular cistern containing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), located in the brain's midline beneath the fornices and above the third ventricle.

Location: Situated inferior to the splenium of the corpus callosum and superior to the roof of the third ventricle, extending anteriorly to the foramen of Monro.

Cavum Veli Interpositi (CVI): A common, often benign variant where this space is dilated and CSF-filled, frequently seen in children (21–34% under 2 years) and usually reducing with age.Clinical Significance: CVI is generally considered a "leave-me-alone" lesion (a benign incidental finding), though large, symptomatic cysts are rare, potentially causing pressure symptoms.

MRI, it presents as a characteristic triangle-shaped, fluid-density structure behind the third ventricle and between the lateral ventricles, often bordered by internal cerebral veins
