Did you know that there is a relationship between Primitive Reflexes and Vision?

Inhibition of primitive reflexes enhances motor control and is significantly associated with the improvement of binocular coordination.
Primitive reflexes are complex, automatic brain stem mediated movements patterns that begin as early as 9-12 weeks post-conception and are fully present at birth in healthy, full term infants.
They became of interest to clinicians working with children with cerebral palsy children and learning difficulties.
Abnormal persistence of primitive reflexes make children more likely to have visual skill deficits, as they provide a primary mechanism through which the newborn can learn to understand what is seen during the first few months of life and also teach them to coordinate the fine ocular musculature in such a way as to acquire appropriate accommodation, fusion, fixation and convergence.

As shown by : Vicente A. Domingo-Sanz ,Inhibition of Primitive Reflexes and Its Relationship with Visual Projection in Children and Adolescents, Centro Montrull • Algemesí, Valencia, Spain 2022;10(4):183-197

A great study on Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation for the treatment of Visual Snow Syndrome was published today in Frontiers of Neurology. https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2022.999336/full?&utm_source=Email_to_authors_&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=T1_11.5e1_author&utm_campaign=Email_publication&field=&journalName=Frontiers_in_Neurology&id=999336&fbclid=IwAR2trTPVOZB9H-yl6AIhvYgLCxDJQFEF2uCOsSJUFFnY5elFhaJq9O7TpbQ

ObjectiveThis study intends to evaluate the feasibility of Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Therapy (NORT) to treat Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). This pilot study utilized the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25) to assess quality of life (QOL) before and after treatment.Me...

Vision therapy combined with conventional treatment (optical correction and part-time patching) is more effective than conventional treatment alone in children aged 7–10 years with unilateral refractive amblyopia. The treatment results not only in greater vision gain, but also in shorter duration of treatment.

Background There is a critical period for visual development, conventionally considered to be the first 6 years of life. Children aged 7 years and older are significantly less responsive to amblyopia treatment. This study investigated the efficacy of binocular vision therapy in amblyopic childre...
