It is based on classical theories of Chinese Medicine, Western psychology and traditions of Zen Buddhism. It uses nurturing touch instead of needles to move and support energy in the body. Chinese Medicine speaks of a vital energy called Qi. It flows through the body via energy channels- meridians, connecting our vital organs with other areas and functions of our body. When the natural flow of Qi
gets blocked, depleted or out of balance, we experience physical or emotional symptoms - pain or disease. By finding areas with lack of harmony in the body and adjusting imbalanced meridians, Shiatsu practitioner restores proper flow of Qi. This method calms the autonomic nervous system, helps to increase resistance to stress and calms nervous distress. Shiatsu helps with circulation of blood and lymph which affects the muscle tone and healthy internal organ function. It also strengthens the immune system. Done regularly is a method of preventing health and treatment for existing problems. Like most Shiatsu practitioners, I give massages on a special mat called futon, placed on the floor. Recipient should be dressed comfortably with light clothing. I use relaxed body weight to apply pressure along meridians and acupressure points in order to stimulate the body’s own (natural) healing response. Other techniques I employ to restore balance in the flow of Qi in the recipient's body include stretching, rocking and holding. I'm using my hands, fingers (especially thumbs), forearms, and feet. Shiatsu massage tends to bring a sense of a deep relaxation and regeneration. It's not only very pleasant but also helpful in restoring vitality. It has a positive effect on- headaches, insomnia, digestive issues, fatigue and many more.
