🇬🇧 Vertical alveolar ridge augmentation is highly technique-sensitive, and healing complications remain one of the main causes of partial graft failure or compromised outcomes. As shown here, early exposures are associated with a higher risk of infection and graft loss, whereas late complications are usually less destructive. Two key strategies may help reduce these events: first, improving reinforced PTFE membranes/mesh adaptation and customization to obtain a more precise graft contour and reduce mechanical tension on the flap; second, enhancing soft tissue closure and vascularized coverage by using Bichat’s buccal fat pad, especially in challenging maxillary defects. In short, complication prevention in vertical GBR depends on both prosthetic-surgical planning of the regenerative device and optimization of flap healing.

🇬🇧 In this randomized clinical trial, we compared two different digital approaches for vertical ridge augmentation: customized reinforced PTFE mesh and customized CAD/CAM titanium mesh. Seeing this work published in Clinical Oral Implants Research is especially meaningful, as this journal is one of the leading international references in implant dentistry.
