📢 Showdown time for the best of all updates we could ever expect today! Right on our founder Alessandro’s 40th birthday so making for the best gift 😍🇮🇹

Today, the Italian Constitutional Court published a highly anticipated ruling regarding the new Italian Citizenship Law:
👉🏻While no full validation was ruled, the Court didn’t annul the Tajani Decree either. Rather, they recognized that the issue involves European Union Law and decided to refer the discussion to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which will be taking on the matter in order to offer the final (binding) interpretation.

⚠️What does this ACTUALLY mean?
↪️ The debate is still wide open.
↪️ There is still a real possibility that the understanding of the new rule will change.
❌ However, we now have to wait for the CJEU's decision, which could take up to 2 years before it’s set.

Meanwhile, ongoing cases that were initiated after March 27, 2025 will likely be suspended, and hearings will be rescheduled to wait for such a ruling.
Of course, we are all still eagerly awaiting the Italian Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione) to weigh in at this time —and this is actually where we have our highest hopes for a positive outcome given the recent Constitutional Court develop! However, it’s still unclear if the Supreme Court will issue their ruling in the coming months or if they will wait for Europe to speak first.

The Constitutional Court could have just stuck to their April stance and upheld the Tajani Decree exactly as it is. Instead, they decided to pass the ball to the European Court, making that a glimmer of hope off to shining ahead!🤞🏻🇮🇹

🌿 Exciting news for our Italian genealogy community! 🇮🇹
My dear friend and colleague Michele Cartusciello with Museo del Cognome has embarked on what could probably be the most important project of his life: the Ancestors Park in Padula, on the southernmost edge of our common home region Campania.
With a mind more eruptive and creative than Mount Etna, he has brought to life something truly unprecedented!

For Michele, it is no longer enough to just dig through historical archives to give names and identities to the ancestors of those who seek their origins. He realized that these stories shouldn't remain locked away in a drawer or kept only in the hearts of a single family.
Now, our ancestors will live on through a tree, sharing their stories with anyone who immerses themselves in the nature of the park!

That is why we are incredibly proud to announce that Bella Italia Genealogy is an official founding member of this incredible initiative! 🌳
We have dedicated a Birch tree to the paternal Great-Uncle Luigi of our founder, Alessandro Bovino. His brave journey of emigration from Italy to the USA is the exact spark that inspired him to found Bella Italia Genealogy in the first place. Through this tree, his roots are forever anchored back in his homeland, ready to welcome other descendants as well as his own long-lost found cousins🥰

An introduction to genealogy and family memory for children aged 5 to 12, as part of the Ciucci Liberi program.

📖 6:00 PM | A i can' r'cenn — 30 Years Later
The cultural association La Locomotiva presents the new edition and expansion of the historic 1994 collection of proverbs: an archive to preserve and pass on the dialect and collective memory of Padula.

🌳 7:00 PM | Baptism Ceremony of the Adopted Trees
A walk through the park's areas and the official naming ceremony of the first trees adopted by founders who have joined from all over the world.

🎤 8:30 PM | Project Presentation
Presentation of the project and the work planned in the coming years. Launch of the beginner-level genealogy courses for the 2026–2027 academic year.

🚨 HUGE NEWS: THE TIDE IS TURNING! 🇮🇹⚖️

To everyone who thought the door was closing: think again. A brand-new ruling from the Italian Supreme Court (Cassazione) has just dropped, and it could be a game-changer for all of us!

While some were mourning the "end" of iure sanguinis after the recent decree, the Supreme Court just reminded the government of a fundamental truth:

1. You were BORN Italian🇮🇹🧬
The Court confirmed that citizenship is a permanent, absolute, and imprescriptible right. It’s not a "gift" from the government; it’s a status you acquired the moment you were born. It doesn’t expire, and it can’t be "timed out."

2. The Tajani Decree vs. Reality 🛡️
If you were born before March 27, 2025, you were born under the old law. Since the Supreme Court says you were already Italian at birth, a new decree cannot simply strip that away retroactively. You aren't a foreigner asking for a favor; you are a citizen asking for your ID!

3. Why this matters for Lawsuits 🏛️

💡it’s important to see the bigger picture though! This is NOT a dead end—it’s a strategic shift. For professionals and families alike, the focus is now moving toward the most solid ground in our legal tradition.

➡️Why the 1948 Line is our Best Asset

• No Administrative Hurdles: Since these cases have no administrative path (they must go through the courts), they should not be bound by new procedural limits or the recent law's generational caps.
• Old Rules might still apply: They represent a judicial frontier where the traditional principles of ius sanguinis—unchanged and unfiltered—still carry the most weight.

👨‍⚖️The June 9th Milestone & the Supreme Court

We are not standing still. The next phase of this battle is already scheduled:
• June 9, 2026: The Constitutional Court will hear cases from the Tribunals of Mantua and Campobasso. These are structural challenges that go much deeper than previous rulings.
• The Cassazione Factor: The Supreme Court should still hold the traditional view: Italian citizenship is a status you possess from birth. Recognition is just a formal "yes" to an existing reality.
