Why I chose Pranayama 🧘♀️
Out of all the 8 limbs of Patanjali, I chose Pranayama – because right now, it’s the practice that’s nourishing me the most.
But it wasn’t always like this. For a long time, I found it incredibly difficult, no matter how hard I tried.
Then the pandemic happened – and two things shifted.
First, I started practicing Pranayama regularly thanks to the online classes that Robert Moses was offering. Second, my mom got sick. Very aggressive breast cancer. For her, even accepting the diagnosis was a shock – let alone going through treatments and resting. She fell into a kind of depression.
And it was through this – if I can even say that – that I truly understood how powerful and transformative breathing really is. Strange to say, since without breath there is no life… but I had never really felt it.
I remember one day coming back from visiting my mom. The pandemic had made even a simple train trip complicated. I was shaken by what I had seen at home, and I could barely hold back my tears.
On the train, I suddenly remembered: the Pranayama class was about to start.
I put on my earphones, hid my hands under my coat to hold the different mudrās without drawing too much attention, and joined the session.
One hour of slow, conscious, controlled breathing later… my entire perspective had shifted.
I could see things clearly. I felt calm. Ready to face – one step at a time – whatever was waiting for me.
From that day on, my first practice of the morning has been an hour of Pranayama (more or less, depending on what life brings). And I’ve never stopped studying and practicing with Robert Moses who guides me with wisdom and intelligence into the discovery of the fourth limb.
Keep practicing. Keep breathing. 🙏🌬️ Thanks to my dear friend and teacher for inviting me and thanks to . I’ll pass the relay to and .ashtangayoga , for donation yogagivesback.org/donate
