Sunday 30th August the Antiques market is in Francavilla Fontana.
Antiques, Bric-a-brac, and crafts along Viale Lilla and part of Via Roma. From early until lunch time.
Sunday mornings in Francavilla have a lovely relaxed atmosphere, with many people sitting outside cafes, strolling around the historic centre, visiting the castle, and going to church. Although the nearest parking to the Antiques market is at the train station, I suggest parking either at the new car park in Via Ceglie, or in the roads around Via Cavour, then walking through the historic centre.

Antiquariato, oggettistica varia e artigianato lungo Viale Lilla e un tratto di Via Roma; l'evento si svolgerà dal mattino fino all'ora di pranzo.
La domenica mattina a Francavilla si respira una piacevole atmosfera di relax: molte persone si siedono ai tavolini dei bar all'aperto, passeggiano per il centro storico, visitano il castello o si recano in chiesa. Sebbene il parcheggio più vicino al mercatino sia quello della stazione ferroviaria, consiglio di lasciare l'auto nel nuovo parcheggio di Via Ceglie oppure nelle strade intorno a Via Cavour, per poi raggiungere il centro storico a piedi.

FREE CONCERT in Francavilla Fontana 26 August 2026.
The band "PFM – Premiata Forneria Marconi" will be live in Piazza Giovanni XXIII at 21.30. (Arrive early to park, take a walk around the historic centre, stop for a drink, and secure your place in the Piazza). Parking is free in the streets around Via Cavour and Via Aldo Moro, plus there is a new free car park along Via Ceglie next to the hospital.

PFM are one of the most influential bands in the history of Italian music. They bring to the stage a sonic universe of progressive rock, musical exploration, energy, and great songs that have spanned generations.

La "PFM – Premiata Forneria Marconi" si esibirà dal vivo in Piazza Giovanni XXIII alle ore 21:30. (Consigliamo di arrivare in anticipo per parcheggiare, fare due passi nel centro storico, concedersi un drink e assicurarsi un posto in piazza). Il parcheggio è gratuito nelle strade adiacenti a Via Cavour e Via Aldo Moro; è inoltre disponibile un nuovo parcheggio gratuito lungo Via Ceglie, accanto all'ospedale.

La PFM è una delle band più influenti nella storia della musica italiana. Porta sul palco un universo sonoro fatto di rock progressivo, esplorazione musicale, energia e grandi brani che hanno attraversato le generazioni.

Una serata speciale, a ingresso libero, nel cuore dell'estate di Francavilla.

Happy Circus arrives in Villa Comunale, Francavilla Fontana.
On Thursday, August 27th, at 9:00 PM, Francavilla Fontana is preparing for a Circus themed evening dedicated to the magic, fun, and fantasy.
The program includes juggling, magic, giant bubbles, mascots, and Lucilla cosplay, for an event designed especially for children and families.

Giovedì 27 agosto, alle ore 21:00, Francavilla Fontana si prepara a una serata a tema circense all'insegna della magia, del divertimento e della fantasia.
Il programma prevede giocoleria, magia, bolle giganti, mascotte e cosplay di Lucilla, per un evento pensato appositamente per bambini e famiglie.

Prince Andrea Imperiali left a large sum of money for this building's construction. The Piarists, who were known to run educational activities demolished all the existing buildings (including a 16th-century church) to build a new church and an adjoining building. Construction started in 1696, which is on a plaque on the right exterior. It was completed in 1728.
The Dome was built by Fra Benedetto delle Scuole Pie in 1728 and was the first example in Puglia of a majolica dome (glazed ceramic tiles). It is supported by a high drum and topped with a lantern.
The adjoining building became a college (the Collegio delle Scuole Pie). It was transferred to the Municipality in 1868, and since then the church has gradually been abandoned and is in need of restoration. Which is why you can’t enter. But I have included below some photos I took several years ago.
Inside, the most noteworthy features are the two altars, dedicated to San Gaetano Thiene (beneath which are preserved the remains of the martyr San Celestino) and to San Elzeario. They are of Baroque design and were commissioned by two princesses of the Imperiali family, Brigida Grimaldi and Irene Simeana. Four more altars were added in the second half of the 18th century. There are also some 18th-century paintings attributed to Matteo and Diego Bianchi di Manduria.
The school next to the Church of San Sebastiano is the former Reale Collegio Ferdinandeo, which now houses Scuola Media Statale Vitaliano Bilotta (Vitaliano Bilotta state middle school). I took these photos inside the building, when there were tours as part of the “Open Courtyards” event.

🇮🇹 Il principe Andrea Imperiali lasciò una ingente somma di denaro per la costruzione di questo edificio. I Padri Scolopi, noti per la loro attività educativa, demolirono tutte le strutture preesistenti (inclusa una chiesa del XVI secolo) per edificare una nuova chiesa e un edificio annesso. I lavori iniziarono nel 1696, come riportato su una targa posta all'esterno, sul lato destro, e si conclusero nel 1728.
La cupola fu realizzata nel 1728 da Fra Benedetto delle Scuole Pie e rappresentò il primo esempio in Puglia di cupola rivestita in maiolica (piastrelle in ceramica smaltata); poggia su un alto tamburo ed è sormontata da una lanterna.
L'edificio adiacente divenne un istituto scolastico (il Collegio delle Scuole Pie). Nel 1868 passò al Comune e, da allora, la chiesa è stata progressivamente abbandonata e necessita di interventi di restauro; per questo motivo non è possibile accedervi. Tuttavia, qui sotto ho inserito alcune fotografie scattate diversi anni fa.
All'interno, gli elementi di maggior pregio sono i due altari dedicati a San Gaetano Thiene (sotto il quale sono custodite le spoglie del martire San Celestino) e a Sant'Elzeario. Di gusto barocco, furono commissionati da due principesse della famiglia Imperiali: Brigida Grimaldi e Irene Simeana. Nella seconda metà del XVIII secolo furono aggiunti altri quattro altari. Sono presenti inoltre dipinti settecenteschi attribuiti a Matteo e Diego Bianchi di Manduria.
L'edificio scolastico accanto alla chiesa di San Sebastiano è l'ex Reale Collegio Ferdinandeo, che oggi ospita la Scuola Media Statale "Vitaliano Bilotta". Ho scattato queste foto all'interno della struttura in occasione delle visite guidate organizzate nell'ambito dell'evento "Cortili Aperti".

Excitement is building for Francavilla Fontana's Festa (Festa Patronale) The lights (luminarie) are going up and already it promises to be a spectacular display. It is fascinating to watch how they put them up with wires to the buildings and no support at the base of the posts. Sit with a coffee and watch.
Make sure the dates are in your diary to be in Francavilla Fontana from 11th to 15th September. These are the main dates, with concerts and the procession. But there are also other events leading up to it. See the list of events below from the "Comitato Festa - Francavilla Fontana".
