Using our hands is not an alternative to exercise: it is one of the skills that contributes to making a truly well-rounded clinician.
Our hands are an essential tool during the physical examination. They allow us to gather relevant information, inform clinical reasoning, and better understand the person in front of us.
Just like exercise, the use of our hands is part of the skill set that clinicians should develop. The goal is not to place different tools in opposition, but to know how and when to use them appropriately according to the individual needs of each person.
This is one of the topics addressed through the work on clinical reasoning and patient management at the core of the Advanced Musculoskeletal Pain Care Certificate.
