Tiina Virtanen è terapista shiatsu finlandese e lavora ogni giorno con persone, cavalli e cani. È co-fondatrice della Finn-Jusei Equine Shiatsu School e ha completato la sua formazione in shiatsu equino con Liz Eddy, che continua ancora oggi a essere la sua mentore.

Al Congresso Europeo di Shiatsu 2026 porterà il suo intervento "Shiatsu per cavalli e cani": un invito ad ascoltare il corpo con lo stesso tocco consapevole, che si tratti di un essere umano o di un animale.

Tiina Virtanen is a Finnish shiatsu therapist who works every day with people, horses and dogs. She is co-founder of the Finn-Jusei Equine Shiatsu School and trained in equine shiatsu with Liz Eddy, who still mentors her today.

Da anni Patrizia Stefanini indaga cosa accade davvero nell'incontro tra due persone attraverso il tocco. Un percorso nutrito dal confronto con fisici come Emilio Del Giudice e Fritz-Albert Popp, che l'ha portata a dare vita all'Hado Shiatsu: un dialogo tra le tradizioni orientali di cura e la fisica quantistica dei campi.

Sabato 19 settembre, al Congresso Europeo di Shiatsu, Patrizia ci guiderà nel seminario "Uketoru – La Risonanza Vitale", tra coerenza, risonanza e nuove possibilità di lettura del Keiraku, il meridiano del maestro Masunaga.

🇬🇧 A physics degree, brought onto the futon. 🔬🤲

For years, Patrizia Stefanini has researched what truly happens between two people through touch — a path shaped by dialogue with physicists like Emilio Del Giudice and Fritz-Albert Popp, and one that led her to create Hado Shiatsu: a dialogue between Eastern healing traditions and the quantum physics of fields.

On Saturday, September 19th, at the European Shiatsu Congress, Patrizia will guide us through the seminar "Uketoru – Vital Resonance," exploring coherence, resonance and new ways of reading the Keiraku, master Masunaga's meridian.

🇮🇹 "È il curare che ci rende umani e pienamente umani, quando realizziamo una cura integrale."

Con "Curare col Cuore", Padre Guidalberto Bormolini riflette su come prendersi cura di corpo, psiche e spirito insieme migliori la qualità di vita di chi affronta una malattia grave. A mancare, quando la cura si ferma al corpo, è proprio la dimensione spirituale: spesso trascurata, può diventare una vera risorsa terapeutica.

Antropologo, tanatologo e sacerdote dei Ricostruttori nella preghiera, Bormolini è laureato alla Pontificia Università Gregoriana, dottorando in Teologia Spirituale all'Ateneo S. Anselmo, e insegna nei Master "Death Studies & the End of Life" (Padova) e "La Gentilezza nella relazione di cura" (AOU Meyer, Firenze).

With "Curare col Cuore" (Healing with the Heart), Father Guidalberto Bormolini reflects on how caring for body, mind and spirit together improves quality of life for those facing serious illness. What's missing when care stops at the body is precisely that spiritual dimension: often overlooked, it can become a genuine therapeutic resource.

An anthropologist, thanatologist and priest of the Ricostruttori nella Preghiera community, Bormolini holds a degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University, is a doctoral candidate in Spiritual Theology at the Sant'Anselmo Athenaeum, and teaches on the "Death Studies & the End of Life" Master's (Padua) and "Kindness in Care Relationships" Master's (AOU Meyer, Florence).

🇮🇹 Dalla fine degli anni '70 lo Shiatsu accompagna Stefania Ferri, che negli anni '90 lo ha portato in ambito sociale, sanitario e istituzionale. Dal 1996 collabora con l'Unità Operativa di Neuropsichiatria Infantile dell'Ospedale Bellaria di Bologna, diretta dalla professoressa Antonia Parmeggiani.

Al Congresso la incontreremo due volte: nel programma parallelo con la dottoressa Parmeggiani, e in un intervento per gli operatori. Al centro: uno studio sui disegni dei giovani pazienti prima e dopo il trattamento Shiatsu, per leggere attraverso l'arte il cambiamento che il tocco può generare.

🇬🇧 Since the late 1970s, Shiatsu has walked alongside Stefania Ferri, who in the 1990s brought it into social, healthcare and institutional settings. Since 1996 she has worked with the Child Neuropsychiatry Unit at Bellaria Hospital in Bologna, directed by Professor Antonia Parmeggiani.

At the Congress she'll speak twice: in the parallel programme with Dr. Parmeggiani, and in a session for practitioners. At the heart of both: a study of drawings by young patients before and after Shiatsu treatment — reading, through art, the change touch can bring.

🇮🇹 Dal 1996 lo Shiatsu è integrato nel percorso riabilitativo del Centro Regionale per i Disturbi della Nutrizione e dell'Alimentazione in età evolutiva dell'Ospedale Bellaria (IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna). Antonia Parmeggiani, professoressa associata di Neuropsichiatria Infantile all'Università di Bologna e responsabile del Centro, e Stefania Ferri, insegnante e operatrice Shiatsu che segue quell'attività fin dall'inizio, presentano al Congresso i risultati preliminari di un programma decennale: prima e dopo ogni seduta di Shiatsu, ai giovani pazienti viene chiesto di disegnare il proprio corpo. Nel tempo, quei disegni si arricchiscono di dettagli — un segnale, secondo le due relatrici, di una consapevolezza corporea che cresce insieme al percorso di cura, accompagnata da osservazioni incoraggianti anche sul benessere somatico.

🇬🇧 Since 1996, Shiatsu has been integrated into the rehabilitation pathway of the Regional Centre for Eating and Nutrition Disorders in Childhood at Bellaria Hospital (IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences, Bologna). Antonia Parmeggiani, Associate Professor of Child Neuropsychiatry at the University of Bologna and head of the Centre, and Stefania Ferri, Shiatsu teacher and practitioner who has followed that activity since its beginning, present at the Congress the preliminary results of a decade-long programme: before and after each Shiatsu session, young patients are asked to draw their own body. Over time, those drawings grow richer in detail — a sign, according to the two speakers, of a body awareness that grows alongside the care pathway, paired with encouraging observations on somatic wellbeing too.

Cosa succede quando la scienza della coscienza incontra l'arte del contatto?

Cliff Andrews — cofondatore della Shiatsu College nel Regno Unito e allievo diretto di Pauline Sasaki — porta al Congresso una ricerca che intreccia neuroscienze e tradizione: il lavoro con la dott.ssa Cindy Engel su come si forma la coscienza e su come ci scambiamo informazioni senza parole, unito al "clean language" di Nick Pole per affinare la domanda che orienta ogni trattamento.

Il suo obiettivo? Avvicinarsi a ciò che Masunaga chiamava "l'eco della vita" e Sasaki definiva "ki antipatogenico": la qualità di energia che sostiene la vita stessa, al centro del tema di quest'anno.

What happens when the science of consciousness meets the art of touch?

Cliff Andrews — co-founder of the Shiatsu College in the UK and a direct student of Pauline Sasaki — brings research to the Congress that weaves neuroscience and tradition together: work with Dr. Cindy Engel on how consciousness forms and how we exchange information without words, combined with Nick Pole's "clean language" to sharpen the outcome question that guides every session.

His aim? To get closer to what Masunaga called "the echo of life" and Sasaki called "antipathogenic ki" — the quality of energy that sustains life itself, at the heart of this year's theme.

🇮🇹 Fabrizio Coccetti, ricercatore al Centro Ricerche Enrico Fermi di Roma, porterà una lezione sui fondamenti della fisica moderna: campi quantistici, propagazione dei fotoni, macchine quantistiche che oggi codificano l'informazione. Nessuna metafora: scienza pura, spiegata da chi la fa ogni giorno.

Ma è proprio in questa distanza che, secondo noi, sta il punto. Il campo quantistico che Coccetti descrive è relazione, potenzialità, qualcosa che esiste pienamente solo nell'interazione. Non così diverso da ciò che chi pratica Shiatsu sperimenta ogni giorno nel contatto: due corpi che si influenzano a vicenda, dove il "cosa succede" non si può separare dal "chi incontra chi". Non è la stessa cosa, ma la domanda che le due discipline si pongono, a modo loro, è simile: cosa significa essere in relazione, prima ancora di essere "cose separate"?

🇬🇧 Fabrizio Coccetti, researcher at the Enrico Fermi Research Center in Rome, will give a lecture on the foundations of modern physics: quantum fields, photon propagation, the quantum machines that now encode information. No metaphors: pure science, explained by someone who does it every day.

But that very distance, we think, is where it gets interesting. The quantum field Coccetti describes is relationship, potential, something that only fully exists through interaction. Not so different from what Shiatsu practitioners experience every day in touch: two bodies influencing each other, where "what happens" can't be separated from "who is meeting whom". Not the same thing, but the question both disciplines ask, each in their own way, is similar: what does it mean to be in relationship, before being "separate things" at all?

🇮🇹 "La vita è un'opera d'arte da costruire." 🎨

In questo video Roberto Lazzaro — operatore e insegnante Shiatsu, direttore didattico della Decima Luna Scuola di Shiatsu a Padova, psicologo — ci accompagna in una riflessione che parte dal Taoismo e arriva al cuore dello Shiatsu: la ricerca di equilibrio e armonia con noi stessi, con la natura, con la vita.

"La vita è Wu Wei, acqua che scorre": un'immagine semplice che racchiude l'essenza di questa disciplina, capace di leggere e sostenere, con le sue mappe e i suoi meridiani, i processi energetici del vivente.
