Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS) is a tick bite–associated allergy that can cause reactions to red meat and other mammal-derived products. In a 2021 Medical Acupuncture case series, researchers reviewed 137 AGS patients who underwent Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT), a specialized form of ear acupuncture, at two U.S. clinics. Prior to treatment, many patients experienced gastrointestinal symptoms, skin reactions, and in some cases severe allergic responses such as anaphylaxis.

The study reported that 121 of 126 patients with follow-up data (96%) achieved complete remission of their symptoms after SAAT treatment. Many participants were able to consume mammal-derived foods again without allergic reactions, and no adverse effects from the procedure were reported. However, the authors noted that the findings came from a retrospective case series and should be confirmed through larger, controlled clinical trials.
