n 1950, Quinto was just 4 years old when he left Atri and Abruzzo with his family, embarking on a journey that would take him far from Italy and his roots. More than seventy years have passed since then—a lifetime filled with stories passed down through generations and an unbroken connection to the land where he was born.

Today, that circle has finally come full circle.

For the first time in over seven decades, Quinto returned to Atri, the place where it all began. Accompanying him on this emotional journey were his family and his daughter Terri, who shared every moment of this extraordinary experience. It was a return filled with emotions, expectations, and questions that had accompanied him and his loved ones for many years. Most importantly, it was a return that transformed names heard in family stories into faces, hugs, and smiles.

Thanks to the extensive and meticulous genealogical research carried out by Abruzzo Ancestors, we were able to locate Quinto’s cousins and their families. Through documents, archives, verification, and patience, we reconstructed family connections that seemed lost to time.

Meeting relatives he had never known was one of the most touching moments of the day. Genuine embraces, heartfelt emotions, and the extraordinary feeling of rediscovering a part of oneself that had seemed forever out of reach. Afterwards, a family luncheon brought everyone together around the same table to share stories, memories, and the joy of belonging to one large family.

Making this unforgettable day even more special was the warm welcome received at the Municipality of Atri from Councillor Alfonso Di Basilico, who personally welcomed Quinto back to his hometown, highlighting the importance that the return of emigrants and their descendants holds for the entire community.

It was an intense day, filled with emotions, smiles, and tears of joy. One of those days that reminds us how strong family roots truly are and how important it is to preserve the memory of our origins.

At Abruzzo Ancestors, we are proud and honored to have helped make this reunion possible and to have given Quinto, his daughter Terri, and their entire family an experience they will carry in their hearts forever.

❤️ Because roots are never truly lost. Sometimes they are simply waiting for the right moment to be rediscovered.

In 1903, Pianella said goodbye to one of its sons: Nicola Di Croce.
He left with a suitcase full of hopes and a heart deeply connected to the land that had seen him born, raised, and taught him the art of life ❤️

Perhaps he could never have imagined that, more than 120 years later, the thread of memory would bring his family back to that very place, among ancient streets, silent stones, and timeless memories.

His great-granddaughter Nicole, together with her daughter Gina, finally returned home.
Not just a journey, but a return of the soul ✨

Welcomed warmly by the Municipality of Pianella and honored in memory of Nicola Di Croce, they were able to embrace their roots again through an intense and emotional experience.

Together with local expert Remo Di Leonardo, we at Abruzzo Ancestors
guided Nicole and Gina through the streets of the historic center, the neighborhood where Nicola was born, and to the evocative Church of San Salvatore, now marked by time yet still guarding deep memories, where Nicola was baptized more than a century ago.

The day concluded with a visit to the Museum of Ceramics of Pianella, home to extraordinary ceramics crafted in the 1600s, authentic masterpieces that tell the ancient story and soul of Abruzzo 🏺

Finally came the most touching moment: the delivery of the genealogical research, family trees, and a beautiful family history book dedicated to the Di Croce family 📖🌳

Because roots are never truly broken.
They cross oceans, generations, and silence… simply waiting for the right moment to bloom again ❤️

🌍✨ Anthony’s Journey: a return to roots across time ✨🌍

There are stories that don’t stop at grandparents, nor even great-grandparents. Stories that dig deeper, crossing oceans and generations, returning to where everything began.

From Arizona to the heart of Abruzzo, Anthony and his family embarked on a special journey: a search for their origins. A journey that led them to Ripacorbaria, a small village now part of the municipality of Manoppello, where his great-great-grandfather Giustino Pardi was born.

Inside the evocative Church of San Callisto, among silence filled with memory and ancient light, Father Don Bartolo opened the pages of history for us: the baptism record of Giustino. A moment suspended in time, where past and present met and embraced.

The journey continued on the second day of the ancestral tour, on the morning of May 1st, during Labor Day in Manoppello: Anthony chose to pay tribute to the miners of the Maiella bitumen mines—tireless men whose labor and sacrifice helped write important chapters of Abruzzo’s history. A gesture of respect and remembrance, uniting family roots with a shared cultural identity. Following this meaningful moment, the tour continued with a visit to the historic center of Manoppello, where every street and stone tells a story of the past.

We like to imagine Giustino, wherever he may be, smiling as he sees one of his descendants return home, to the place where it all began.

Welcoming Anthony was not only history, but also the authentic warmth of Abruzzo: the genuine flavors offered by Roberto Cavallo, City Councillor of the Municipality of Manoppello, and the institutional yet heartfelt reception from Deputy Mayor Giulia De Lellis, who honored the memory of a man who left this land in search of the American Dream.

And as for the genealogical research on the Pardi family, the journey through time has only just begun. It will lead us deep into the centuries-old history of this family, back to the 1600s—and quite possibly even further beyond.

This was not just a journey. It was a return. A bridge between generations. It was Abruzzo. ❤️

On October 10, 1895, in the Church of San Nicola in Pettorano sul Gizio, in the province of L’Aquila, Antonio Emilii and Maria Teresa Giorgi were united in marriage, intertwining their lives under the silent gaze of history. Just a few years later, they departed for Rhode Island, carrying with them dreams, hopes, and the deep roots of their homeland.

And yet, some connections know neither distance nor time. They remain. They live on. ❤️

Susan, together with her family and the Abruzzo Ancestors team — Davide, Marco, and Giulia — walked through memories, retracing the paths where Antonio and Maria Teresa were his great-granparents born and lived. Step by step, among ancient stones and silence filled with echoes of the past, pausing in front of number 29 on Via Sant’Antonio, where Antonio Emilii was born in the distant year of 1864.

Lives change, oceans divide, new generations are born far away… yet the bond with the land of one’s ancestors remains an invisible, unbreakable thread, capable of crossing time and speaking directly to the heart.

And then, like the closing of a timeless story, a visit to the evocative Castello Cantelmo brought the day to an end, its ancient walls holding centuries of stories and returns.

Thank you, Susan and your family, for allowing us to share such a genuine and profound emotion. 🌿

*115 Years Later: The Return to Fallascoso* 💚🇮🇹🇺🇸

115 years after their departure, Bruce finally set foot in Fallascoso, in the province of Chieti. It was 1912 when his grandfather Fiorindo and grandmother Maria left this small village nestled in the mountains, carrying a suitcase full of dreams and the hope of the American Dream.

The emotion of his arrival was indescribable. Walking those same streets, entering the Church of San Nicola where his grandparents vowed eternal love, leafing through ancient parish registers and uncovering secrets kept for over a century... it was like rewinding the tape of his family’s history. 🥹

The day also gifted us a visit to the _Archaeological Park of Juvanum_, where ancient Roman stones added depth and wonder to this journey back to his origins.

And then, the perfect ending: among the church’s naves, we discovered a stunning banner donated in 1912 by the emigrants from Fallascoso living in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. _Ardmore is exactly where Bruce’s family lived and grew up._ A red thread that forever binds two communities separated by an ocean, but united by the same heart.

Because sometimes, returning to your roots means understanding who you truly are.

Special thanks go to Ennio Di Pietrantonio and Lucio Cuomo for warmly welcoming Bruce and his family.

📍 *Semivicoli - Casacanditella | A roots journey we’ll never forget* 💚

Debbie and Candy had two big dreams:
1. To see Semivicoli, in the province of Chieti, the village their grandfather Adamo left for America in the early 1900s.
2. To meet the relatives still living in Semivicoli and Casacanditella.

Mission accomplished! 🎉 Together with the Abruzzo Ancestors team, we tracked down the family and organized a huge family reunion that moved everyone to tears.

We guided Debbie, Candy, and their families through their grandfather Adamo’s world: they held his original birth and baptism certificates and walked the same streets where he grew up. The emotion was indescribable. 🥹

The tour turned into a celebration: from wine tasting at Cantina Masciarelli to the wonderful welcome by the Municipality of Casacanditella, thanks to Councilwoman Cristina Orsatti. A heartfelt thank you also to Loredana Balducci, Debbie and Candy’s cousin, whose passion helped make everything perfect.

*Sometimes, in our genealogical research, we don’t just find ancestors... we reunite entire families.* That’s the magic of what we do.

🌟 Hero of the Abruzzese Resistance! 🌟
Giovanni Spensa, from Vasto, was executed by French occupying forces in Sulmona on May 10, 1800, for defending his land and freedom. 😊
As Napoleon crossed the Gran San Bernardo to defeat the Austrians at Marengo, Giovanni Spensa opposed the French occupation, becoming a symbol of Abruzzese resistance. His death is an example of courage and sacrifice for his country.
The Peligna valley, with Sulmona as a strategic center, was a scene of clashes and rebellions against the French occupation. French troops, led by generals like Jean Étienne Championnet and Guillaume Philibert Duhesme, tried to suppress local resistance, but met strong opposition.
Sometimes, in our genealogical reconstructions, we meet characters who made history... like Giovanni Spensa! Want to discover your roots and your ancestors' story? Contact us at [email protected] or on Messenger!

📜 Marriage Dowries: When Marriage Was Also a Contract
In the past, marriage was not only the union of two people, but also a formal economic and family agreement. Marriage dowries were notarized documents listing in detail the goods that the bride brought into the marriage.
These could include money, land, household linens, furniture, tools, livestock, and sometimes even houses or vineyards. The dowry helped establish the new household and was an important part of family alliances and social status.
In this notarial document from 1661, we can see a detailed inventory of the goods that accompanied the bride into her new life. Records like this reveal much more than a marriage—they provide fascinating insights into daily life, material culture, family relationships, and the economic conditions of the time.
For genealogists, dowry records are extremely valuable sources. They often mention parents, relatives, witnesses, properties, and places, helping researchers reconstruct family histories across generations.
🔎 Through notarial records, parish archives, and historical documents, Abruzzo Ancestors helps uncover the stories of Abruzzese families and their descendants around the world.
