Cats are much longer to their ancestors than you might think. Knowing this can help explain some of their weirder behaviours.

In Germany, animal protection isn't just a nice idea — it's written into the constitution itself.

Since 2002, Article 20a of the German Basic Law states that the state must protect animals, by law, as part of its responsibility to future generations. Not a guideline. Not a suggestion. A constitutional duty.

I think about this a lot in my work — because it echoes something I see every day in sessions: animals aren't background characters in our lives. They feel, they carry, they remember. They deserve to be protected and understood on their own terms.

"He's always been like that." "She's just a nervous one." "That's just his personality."

Sometimes, that's true. But often, what we call personality is actually a pattern — one that formed for a reason, at some point, and simply never had the chance to shift.

Past experiences shape the behaviour of an animal in the now. But they do not need to define the future. 🐾

Personality is who they are. Patterns are what they learned. They're not always the same thing.

The tail flick before the play gets rough. The ears that pin back just slightly before they walk away. The pause before they let you pick them up.

These small signals are your cat's language — and most of us were never taught to read it.

Cats are my favourite sceptics. They don't believe in anything they haven't decided for themselves. And they heal anyway. Every time. 🐾

The more we learn to notice the quiet signs, the less we miss what they're really telling us.

Some dogs charge through every open door. Others stand there, torn — one paw forward, one paw back.

We call it indecisiveness. But it's often something else: a nervous system that's learned to hesitate first and trust later.

Beneath every difficult behaviour is an animal trying their best with what they carry. 🐾

If your dog freezes at thresholds, hovers by doorways, or seems to "think too much" before simple choices — it's not stubbornness. It's often an old caution that never fully left them.

Watch closely on a lazy Sunday like this, and you'll notice — a cat who feels safe doesn't just rest. They soften completely. Paws knead. Eyes half-close. Body fully unguarded.

If your cat rarely gets there — if there's always a flicker of tension even in the calm moments — that's not "just their personality." It's often a sign of something unprocessed underneath.

This is what healing looks like. Not perfection. Just softness, returning.
