ESO European School of Oncology

ESO European School of Oncology Provide excellence in education and personalised career development for health professionals.
(1)

The European School of Oncology was founded by Umberto Veronesi and Laudomia Del Drago in 1982, with the aim of contributing to the reduction of deaths from cancer due to late diagnosis and/or inadequate treatment. By improving the skills of all health professionals dealing with cancer patients, ESO helps shorten the time needed to transfer knowledge from research centres to daily practice, combin

ing advanced technology with humanism in care. ESO’s mission is reflected in its motto “Learning to Care”, which emphasises the importance of the learning process, and the goal of caring for the patient in a holistic sense, in contrast to focusing purely on treating the disease. Due to its financial independence, ESO has the rare privilege of being able to set its own priorities. It therefore pays particular attention to developing the transfer of knowledge in areas that are least supported by industry, such as surgery and in rare pathologies (including childhood tumours), and in countries and regions with limited economic resources.

💬 "This experience has been truly transformative. Beyond the invaluable clinical insights that enriched my professional path, the vibrant cultural exchange and amazing team made this journey an incredible human experience."

Through the M2ICOS project, Dr Alessandro Di Gangi (Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa) completed a 3-month observership in Paediatric Oncology at the Centre Léon Bérard in Lyon, France.

The initiative expands mobility opportunities for oncology professionals across Europe, enabling them to train at leading institutions, share best practices, and contribute to harmonising oncology care standards in line with the EU Beating Cancer Plan.

Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or INAPP. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
