What an extraordinary few days at the 35th Annual Congress of the ESGE - European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy in Krakow.
A time for scientific exchange, surgical demonstrations, reconnecting with friends and forging new connections that are the driving forces of our Society.
This congress will remain particularly important to me. As Ertan Saridogan concludes his presidency, I want to thank him for his dedication, leadership and friendship over these years. I am delighted to see my friend Vasilios Tanos take over as ESGE President and deeply honoured to have been elected President-Elect myself. Having been part of this Society for many years, I feel grateful for the trust of my colleagues and excited to contribute to its future… together.
It was a pleasure to be part of the live surgery programme and to contribute to thought-provoking discussions on minimally invasive approaches, with particular emphasis on multi-modal surgery and its clinical implications including reproductive outcomes. A special thanks to KARL STORZ and particularly to Paolo Cantù, Pascal Renner, René Blocher and Alexandra Gissel for making everything possible in the theatre.
I was also honoured to deliver the laudatio for Professor Caterina Exacoustos, a true pioneer whose outstanding contributions to imaging have profoundly influenced our practice as reproductive surgeons. Her work perfectly embodies the integration of diagnostic and surgical expertise that lies at the very heart of ESGE's vision.
A special thank you to Rafal Stojko, Paweł Basta and the entire local organising committee for such an excellent congress and to Pr Pierre COLLINET and Luis Alonso Pacheco for the outstanding scientific programme. My heartfelt appreciation also goes to Rhona, Vanya and the whole team from ESGE Central Office, whose dedication and hard work were felt throughout the congress (and before).
And a final, personal note: we came to Krakow as a team of 28 from the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II. Seeing my senior fellows, Brunella Zizolfi and Maria Chiara De Angelis, sharing their expertise alongside international experts, and our younger fellows and residents contributing to scientific discussions and presenting their research was a source of genuine pride. I have seen many of them grow professionally and now listening to their own voice on an international stage, with the strong support of the Society, is a shared achievement and the very engine of its future.
I return from Krakow with memories, renewed enthusiasm and an even stronger sense of responsibility towards our community.
Thank you, ESGE.
Looking forward to the next stop: see you all (and your growing teams) in Porto, 1-4 December 2027!
