It’s August so I’m channelling my French neighbours and going into chill out mode for the month.

I’m not disappearing, just more taking child’s pose than a vinyasa (full on flow)

I’ll keep showing you around Jersey…

And sharing my latest reads…

Plus pictures of Luna of course!

So I might be a little quieter on here this month…

…but stick around because the background I am still busy, preparing something very special for September 🤫

So here’s to staycations and long summer days.

Have a lovely August everyone!

Why does the heat affect your sleep so much?

It’s all to do with your body clock (circadian rhythm)

It expects your core body temperature to fall before sleep and stay low until it’s time to wake up…

So hot nights kind of get it confused.

Things that help:

🪟 open windows in the evening to create a through breeze before bed

🚿 a warm (not hot, not cold) shower before bed - try it, it works

🍛 avoiding spicy foods (and alcohol) as these will raise body temperature more

🧘🏼‍♀️ staying calm and focusing on rest instead - trying listening to a yoga nidra/nsdr

Comment NIDRA and I’ll send you one you can try tonight!

Oh this is so me! 😂

If your brain starts remembering everything the moment your head hits the pillow…

Try keeping a notebook by the bed to jot things down. Out of your head and onto paper!

Calming distraction can work too. Try a few minutes of yoga, breath or nidra.

Comment 9PM and I’ll send you my free 10 minute bedtime wind down.

Lights low, TV on, eyes start to close…

Those mini evening naps on the sofa are eating into your sleep hunger (sleep pressure), just like snacking before a meal

Here’s my go to guide for napping!

😴 serial sofa nappers… change your chair for a few nights. A lot of it is habit and brain connection so break the link with your favourite sofa spot!

😴 if you are sleeping well generally, daytime naps are often fine if you enjoy them! Try and keep to 20 mins max and before 3pm, to keep that sleep pressure high for the night.

😴 an alternative to naps is a 5-20 minute NSDR*/Yoga Nidra*. It’s the perfect afternoon pick me up without the negative effect on your nighttime sleep.

Want to try one? Comment NIDRA and I’ll send you the link to a 7 minute afternoon boost you can do at home, on the sofa or your bed… or even parked in the car!

* Yoga Nidra = deep rest practice, no movement, just close your eyes and listen
* NSDR = non sleep deep rest, essentially Yoga Nidra (Dr Andrew Huberman just uses a different name. He’s a BIG fan by the way)

If I had to give you one piece of advice about your sleep, it’s that your daytime matters just as much as your nights

Here’s some of my go-to daily sleep loving habits:

☀️ daylight every morning
🥦 lots of fruit and veg
⏰ setting evening boundaries for work
🧘🏼‍♀️ time to genuinely de-stress and switch off

Which of these will you try this week?

I’ve got 15 minute yoga classes over on my YouTube. Comment YOGA and I’ll pop you the link!

Had a hell of a week? Yep me too…

So I’m prioritising these two things this weekend to get me back on track and ready for another week ahead!

Anyone got any funny movie/Netflix/tv type recommendations?

Have a lovely weekend!

A few simple cues that tell you body and brain that the day is done and sleep is coming…

💡 Dim light helps to release sleep hormones (melatonin)

✍️ Writing things out helps close down all those mental tabs that are running in our minds

🛁 A warm bath/shower helps relax and gives you a temperature drop (which is exactly the signal your body needs)

🧘🏼‍♀️ Gentle stretches and calming breath help nudge your body into rest & digest mode (and it’s that rest part we are looking for)

Comment WIND DOWN if you’d like my free 10 min Wind Down to try tonight.

Sleep is an integral part of our health. Without adequate rest, our bodies can't recover and repair properly, which can lead to health issues, injuries and increased risk of disease.

According to surveys in the UK, around 20% of people are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis. And despite understanding the importance of sleep:
- 53% of people say they get a good night’s sleep on four nights a week or fewer.
- Nearly half of women (48%) struggle to fall asleep.
- 58% say heavy workloads negatively affect their sleep.

And for women during perimenopause and early post-menopause, hormone shifts can cause disruptive night sweats (hot flushes) that further impact sleep.

😴 SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP?

Having a consistent, sustainable evening wind-down routine can really help.

Join us on Thursday 18 June from 6pm to 8pm for our Sleep Rituals event.

Hosted by Trix Eastwood, a yoga teacher, nutrition coach and sleep specialist, we invite you to step into a slower, softer evening designed to guide you back to the rhythm of truly restorative sleep.

Trix will be joined by Kathy Kemp, Tropic skincare brand ambassador, who will introduce a beautifully formulated, all-natural magnesium sleep range that offers a sensory layer to your nightly ritual, encouraging relaxation through touch, scent and intention.

This intimate session will explore the art of unwinding well.

Through gentle insight, self-care rituals and a short yoga practice, you’ll discover how to create an evening routine that calms the mind, soothes the body and prepares you for deeper, more nourishing rest.

Spaces are limited to just 8 people, so book now to secure your place.

When there’s a lot going on in your day, your life and your mind…

… it can totally impact your sleep

Here are some things you can try to help your brain know it’s ok to switch off:

📝 take time for a “brain dump” - get swirling thoughts out of your head and onto paper

🧘🏼‍♀️ give your mind something else to focus on with a breathing practice like 4:8 or golden thread (plus the longer exhales will calm your nervous system too - double win)

💭 end the day on “one good thing” - a simple but effective strategy to reframe your thoughts

You’ll find these breath practices and space for your end of day good thought moment inside The Unwind…

…your simple nightly ritual (soon to become your go-to bedtime app)

So if better sleep and a less ruffled mind are on your list, comment UNWIND and I’ll send you details (or link is in my bio!)
