Wow 😮 times are changing!

🌱 Big conversations about the future of organic farming took place at Riverford yesterday.

We were delighted to join Farming Minister Dame Angela Eagle, farmers and organic businesses at Sacrewell to talk about the opportunities organic can deliver for nature, climate and food production ahead of an Organic Action Plan for England which is due to launch this summer.

UK demand for organic is soaring, but much of that demand is still being met by imports. That means there is huge potential for more British farmers to benefit from organic production while helping to build healthier soils, support wildlife and strengthen food system resilience.

Our Farming Advisor Adrian Steele said ‘through ongoing, collaborative work with DEFRA, we are seeing recognition that organic can support government ambitions by delivering resilient food production with healthier soils and more biodiversity, without relying on synthetic inputs.’

After years of work and advocacy to champion organic solutions, it's encouraging to see organic firmly on the agenda.

Remembering on this day how the ocean and rivers have enabled me to feel embraced with gentleness at times, or invigorated, and also able to release strong emotions.

Depending on where I am, can also feel connected to others through the earth’s waters.

Feeling thankful 💙🙏

Sadly, a fall yesterday late afternoon has meant that I cannot guide the Foraging event scheduled for 1.30pm today, meeting at the Watersplash.

I hoped that my ankle would be okay this morning, having used an ice-pack and arnica balm all yesterday evening. But it feels weak, and is swollen.

So sorry to disappoint. Happy to reschedule asap. Please contact me directly, and I’ll share some possible alternative dates.

Green pharmacy - making infused oils using herbs I’ve grown from organic seed, or sustainably foraged wild herbs, slowly over a lunar cycle, or sometimes on the stove top. I used two infused herbal oils
for this formula, Calendula and Wood betony, along with organic shea butter, and wild carrot oil.

Adding local beeswax from a beekeeper that produces raw honey, and then emulsifying over an ice bath with the water elements - hydrosols, a propolis tincture, a little aloe, a dash of California poppy flower essence made one sunny day last summer, and whisking continuously until the mixture firms up. Finally spooning into jars.

Artisanal skincare, using ingredients that are renowned powerful antioxidants, anti-aging and have regenerative properties.

I attended the first day of a Lottery-funded course at the Psychosynthesis Trust yesterday.

A very early start for me, but delighted to find a beautiful meadow garden at on arriving. Grounding for a little while, to land properly, before entering the Trust’s building near London Bridge.

What a welcome to the city!

I’ve been pretty unwell for the last two weeks, with what appeared to be the flu, unusually it floored me at times, with a feeling of being underwater…my sinus system, particularly in my head was congested affecting my hearing. As a craniosacral therapist I often worked with others to support the clearing of this system. I would have liked to receive that resource myself!

Nevertheless, as someone who has experienced long-term chronic fatigue with long periods of immobility, poor gut health and migraines (the latter mostly in the past now), I appear to have significant resilience to acute conditions, generally not being affected as badly as others. However, this episode really impacted my daily life, and the brain fog has been severe.

This morning I’m feeling a lot better. For the first time in two weeks I really enjoyed some food! I baked some miso sourdough on Friday, and had some with some amazing scrambled eggs, sourced from Nikki at La Croix Regeneration Centre
Nikki’s eggs are from heritage breeds, these ones mostly from Light Sussex. I have an enriched sourdough cake mixture fermenting today too, to be baked later this afternoon.

My training at is all about nutrition and gut health, creating nurturing, nutrient dense, real bread that supports health and wellbeing. I used flour from a local greengrocer, stores along with stoneground wholemeal, for the sourdough, replacing most of the salt with Pea Miso from Lovely flavour…I could actually taste and enjoy it today. My taste buds were impacted last week.

Thank you 🙏 for the availability of such great food supplies locally.
