🌿 As children return to school, let’s remember what they are carrying home with them.🌿
Going back to school can be a big transition for a child’s nervous system.
New routines, new expectations, learning, social interactions, friendships, emotions, noise, stimulation and the pressure to navigate their day can create a much bigger emotional and mental load than we sometimes realise.
They may come home tired, irritable, emotional, withdrawn, overwhelmed or simply needing more of us.
And sometimes, what looks like “bad behaviour” is actually a nervous system that has been holding it together all day and is finally saying, _“I need to feel safe now.”
Home can become their safe haven 💖
A place where they don’t have to perform, achieve, explain or hold everything together.
A place where they can take off the invisible backpack they’ve been carrying all day.
✨ Soft lighting
✨ A quiet space
✨ A nourishing meal
✨ A cuddle, if they want one
✨ Time in nature
✨ Gentle connection
✨ Fewer demands
✨ Deep breaths and moments of stillness
✨ Simply being allowed to be
From a spiritual perspective, we can think of this as creating a space where their energy can settle, their body can soften and their nervous system can gradually come back into balance.
And this is important for parents and caregivers too.*💗
We are navigating our own emotions, responsibilities and nervous systems while supporting our children through theirs. It’s a lot.
Please remember that you deserve a safe space to unwind and come back to yourself too.
We don’t have to get everything right.
Sometimes the most healing thing we can offer our children is our calm presence, our compassion and the feeling of:
You are safe here. You are loved here.
You don’t have to hold it all together here.”🌙
If you feel you or your child would benefit from some extra support during this transition, or you would like some gentle tools to help create more safety, regulation and calm within the home, please contact me to book a one-to-one appointment.
You don’t have to navigate it all alone.
