June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month 🧠💜—a time to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other conditions that affect memory, thinking, communication, and daily functioning.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually affects memory, thinking, language, and daily functioning.
It is the most common cause of dementia and typically worsens over time.
Alzheimer’s disease can impact:
- Memory and learning
- Attention and concentration
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Language and communication
- Orientation to time and place
- Daily living skills and independence
- Mood, behavior, and personality
- Social interactions and relationships
- Swallowing and eating (in later stages)
Speech Therapy can help by:
- Supporting communication skills
- Improving memory and cognitive-linguistic abilities
- Teaching strategies to compensate for memory loss
- Enhancing safety and independence in daily communication
- Addressing swallowing difficulties when present
Occupational Therapy can help by:
- Supporting independence in daily activities
- Teaching compensatory strategies and routines
- Improving safety at home and in the community
- Recommending adaptive tools and environmental modifications
- Supporting participation in meaningful activities and quality of life
At Seeds of Hope, our therapists support individuals experiencing cognitive-communication difficulties related to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, stroke, brain injury, and other neurological conditions
Through personalized assessment, therapy, and caregiver education, we help individuals strengthen communication skills, support memory and attention, and maximize participation in daily life.
