　大阪赤十字病院は、病院全体として積極的に国内国際救援を行うべく、院内に専門部署である国際医療救援部を持ち、国内外の救援活動にあたっています。　部内には、国内救援課と国際救援課があり、それぞれに専任職員がおります。国内救援課では、国内災害発生時に365日24時間すぐに救護チームを出せるよう、資機材や車両、人員の体制を維持し、救護員の研修、訓練、また災害発生時には後方支援基地として派遣職員のバックアップを行います。　国際救援課では、海外で発生した災害や紛争、人道危機に対する緊急支援をはじめ、復興期の支援事業や平時における途上国の開発支援も行います。　
　
Japanese Red Cross Osaka Hospital is strongly dedicated to the international humanitarian activities. We have a lot of activities both internally and abroad every year. The international medical relief department is the specialty division for them. The international medical relief department is composed of two divisions, international relief division and domestic relief division that have professional staff respectively. The domestic relief division prepares medical relief teams and their equipment in order to dispatch anytime. It also organizes trainings or workshops for disaster management. The international relief division is responsible for disasters and conflicts abroad. There are projects from emergency phase to recovery phase. We also have development support in developing countries.

【実機を使った初めての滅菌研修　Learning Sterilization Through Hands-On Training: Our First Autoclave-Based Training】
8月21日（金）、日本赤十字愛知医療センター名古屋第二病院の災害管理等の一部をお借りして（ありがとうございます！）、ヘルステクニカル（滅菌管理）研修を実施しました。
90Lのオートクレーブを、研修の参加者が実際に操作する初めての実践的な研修でした。病院では、滅菌は外部業者に委託していることが増えてきていますので、看護師などの医療従事者が直接かかわることが激減しています。しかし、フィールドでは、自分たちで実施しないといけないため、器機の消毒、洗浄、点検、パッキング、そして滅菌までの一連の流れや注意点を理解しておかなければなりません。
通常、90Lのオートクレーブは3時間程度で一連の滅菌プロセスが完了しますが、1気圧で100℃になるまで水を沸かす段階で70分程度かかってしまうなど、予定通りにはいきませんでした。研修自体は、参加者の方々に内容などは比較的満足していただけたようですが、スケジュールを含めプログラムは再検討の余地が大いにありました。
来年度は、今年度の反省を活かして、より効果的に、また参加者の方に楽しんでもらえるような研修にしたいと思います。

On Friday, August 21, we conducted a Health Technical Training session on sterilization management, using part of the disaster management facilities at the Japanese Red Cross Aichi Medical Center Nagoya Daini Hospital.
This was our first training session in which participants had the opportunity to actually operate a 90-liter autoclave. In hospitals, sterilization services are increasingly outsourced to external providers, meaning that nurses and other healthcare professionals have fewer opportunities to be directly involved in the sterilization process. In the field, however, healthcare workers may need to carry out sterilization themselves. It is therefore essential for them to understand the entire process, from disinfection, cleaning, inspection, to packing and sterilization, as well as the key points to consider at each step.
A 90-liter autoclave normally takes approximately three hours to complete the entire sterilization process. However, the actual process did not proceed as expected. For example, it took approximately 70 minutes just to heat the water and reach 100℃ at pressure of 1 atmosphere.
Overall, the participants appeared to be reasonably satisfied with the training content. At the same time, the experience revealed several areas for improvement, particularly in terms of scheduling and program design.
Next year, we hope to build on this year's experience and lessons learned to develop a more effective and engaging training program. By making better use of hands-on practice, we aim to provide participants with practical learning opportunities while making the training more enjoyable and rewarding.

【熊本地震での赤十字コーディネーター活動　　Red Cross Coordination Activities in Kumamoto 】�
熊本地震の被災地では、当院と高槻赤十字病院からそれぞれ2名、計4名の赤十字災害医療コーディネーターが、宇城市の医療・福祉調整本部で活動しています。
発災から3週間以上が経過しましたが、避難所で生活されている方の数は依然として横ばいで、日々さまざまな困りごとが生じています。
現地では急性期の医療支援ニーズは徐々に減少しています。一方で、避難所での生活が長期化する中、被災された方々の疲労は深刻な状況となっています。
そのため救護班には、診療だけでなく、避難所の環境整備など、被災された方々の健康を守るための支援にも取り組んでもらっています。
コーディネーターは宇城市の保健所を拠点に、宇城市・宇土市の避難所を対象とした救護班の巡回計画を立てるほか、避難所で生じた課題を解決するため、必要な支援団体や関係機関との調整を行っています。
災害発生直後の「救う医療」から、被災された方々の生活と健康を支える支援へ。
被災地の状況に合わせて、赤十字の支援は今後も継続されます。

Four Red Cross Disaster Medical Coordinators — two each from Osaka Red Cross Hospital and Takatsuki Red Cross Hospital — are currently working at the Medical, Health and Welfare Coordination Headquarters in Uki City, Kumamoto.
More than three weeks have passed since the earthquake, but the number of people staying in evacuation shelters remains relatively unchanged, and new challenges continue to arise every day.
While the need for acute medical care is gradually decreasing, prolonged life in evacuation shelters is placing a significant physical and emotional burden on affected residents.
Relief teams are therefore providing not only medical care but also support to improve shelter environments and protect the health and well-being of evacuees.
Based at the Uki City Public Health Center, the coordinators plan relief team visits to evacuation shelters in Uki and Uto Cities and coordinate with relevant organizations and agencies to address emerging needs and challenges.
As the needs of affected communities change, Red Cross support will continue to adapt and provide assistance throughout the recovery process.

【シエラレオネ便り ― 日本での出会いから、現地での協働へ ―　Sierra Leone News – From Training in Japan to Working Together in Sierra Leone】
大阪赤十字病院の助産師の角山充子です。
フリータウン小児医療センターサービス向上プロジェクト（国際協力機構JICA）のため
の支援活動に参加するためシエラレオネに到着して約2週間がたちました。
2024年から3カ年に渡って当院でシエラレオネ本邦研修に関わらせていただくなかで、ずっと知りたいと思っていた現地の様子を、今回ようやく実際に見ることができました。
日本でお会いしたことのあるスタッフの皆さんが温かく迎えてくださり、再会できたことを大変うれしく思います。これから現地のスタッフと話し合いを重ね、それぞれの経験や知識を生かしながら、より良いケアの方法を一緒に見つけていけることを楽しみにしています。

Hello, my name is Kakuyama Mitsuko, a midwife at Japanese Red Cross Osaka Hospital.
I am currently in Sierra Leone as a member of the team working on the “Project for Improving Services of Children’s Hospital in Freetown,” by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It has been two weeks since I arrived.
Since 2024, Japanese Red Cross Osaka Hospital has hosted trainees from the Julius Maada Bio Pediatric Center of Excellence, Regent Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone for short-term training programs. Through these programs, I had heard a lot about healthcare in Sierra Leone and was curious to see their workplaces for myself. I am very pleased to finally have the opportunity to learn about the situation firsthand.
I was warmly welcomed by staff members whom I had met in Japan, and I was very happy to see them again here. I look forward to sharing ideas and learning from one another as we work together to find better ways to improve the quality of nursing care.

【ルワンダからお便りが届きました！ / We’ve got message from Rwanda！】

大阪赤十字病院の看護師、永治博亮です。普段は救急外来で勤務していますが、現在はJunior Health Delegateとしてルワンダ共和国に派遣されています。
派遣から1か月が経過し、生活や仕事にも少しずつ慣れてきました。現在のルワンダは乾季で、日本のような蒸し暑さはなく、比較的過ごしやすい日が続いています。山や丘が連なる美しい景色が広がり、どこか故郷に帰ってきたような懐かしさを感じることもあります。
さて、私が主に担当しているのは青少年赤十字海外支援事業（IYCP; International Youth Cooperation Project)です。この事業では、ルワンダの小中学生を対象に安全な水・手洗い・栄養改善などの衛生知識を広げ、地域社会全体の健康・衛生環境の強化を目指しています。
ルワンダは日本と異なり６月が年度末で７月から新年度のため、前年度の活動の評価や来年度の活動計画、予算計画の策定を現地のproject managerとともに日々協力して取り組んでいます。普段は首都のキガリにあるルワンダ赤十字社の事務所で仕事をしていますが、月に数回、活動対象地域であるギサガラ郡ムキンド地区を訪問しています。
先月の訪問では、事業に携わっているボランティアの集会に参加しました。彼らは、私たちが学校や地域で活動を進めるうえで中心的な役割を担う存在です。また、前年度に実施した各学校の保健室やトイレの新設・修繕の状況を確認しました。首都キガリから車で約4時間の場所にあるムキンド地区は、キガリとは大きく環境が異なります。キガリでは蛇口捻れば水を利用できますが、ムキンド地区の学校には水道が整備されておらず、子どもたちは登校前に水を汲みに行かなければなりません。また、1日1食で生活している家庭も多く、安全で衛生的なトイレも十分には整備されていません。
住む地域によって、生活環境に大きな差がある現実に触れ、改めて課題の大きさを実感しました。一方で、新しく整備された保健室やトイレが、子どもたちの健康を守り、より良い学校生活につながることを強く願っています。そのためには、施設を整備するだけでなく、清潔に維持する方法や衛生習慣について学ぶ機会を提供することも重要だと感じています。
まだまだ受益者のためにできることはたくさんあります。これからも現地スタッフと協力しながら、プロジェクトの目標達成に向けて活動を続けていきたいと思います。

Hello, I’m Hiroaki Eiji, a nurse at Japanese Red Cross Osaka Hospital. I normally work in the Emergency Department, but I am currently deployed to the Republic of Rwanda as a Junior Health Delegate.
It has now been one month since my deployment, and I am gradually becoming accustomed to both daily life and work here. Rwanda is currently in the dry season, and unlike Japan, the weather is not hot and humid, making the days relatively comfortable. The beautiful landscape of mountains and rolling hills sometimes gives me a nostalgic feeling, almost as if I have returned to my hometown.
My main responsibility is the International Youth Cooperation Project (IYCP). Through this project, we work with primary and secondary school students in Rwanda to promote knowledge about safe water, handwashing, improved nutrition, and other health and hygiene practices, with the aim of strengthening the health and hygiene of communities as a whole.
Unlike Japan, Rwanda’s school year ends in June and a new academic year begins in July. I therefore work closely with the local project manager each day to evaluate activities from the previous year and develop activity and budget plans for the coming year. I am usually based at the Rwanda Red Cross office in the capital, Kigali, but several times a month I travel to Mukindo Sector in Gisagara District, where the project activities are being implemented.
During my visit last month, I attended a gathering of volunteers involved in the project. These volunteers play a central role in carrying out activities in schools and communities. I also checked the condition of school infirmaries and toilets that were newly constructed or renovated during the previous year.
Mukindo Sector is about a four-hour drive from Kigali, and the living environment there is very different from that of the capital. In Kigali, water is readily available from the tap, but schools in Mukindo do not have running water, and children have to collect water before going to school. Many families also live on just one meal a day, and access to safe and hygienic toilets remains limited.
Seeing firsthand how greatly living conditions can differ depending on where people live has once again made me realize the scale of the challenges. At the same time, I sincerely hope that the newly constructed infirmaries and toilets will help protect children’s health and contribute to a better school life. I also feel that it is important not only to provide facilities, but also to create opportunities for children and communities to learn how to keep them clean and maintain good hygiene practices.
There is still much more we can do for the people and communities the project serves. I will continue working closely with local staff toward achieving the goals of the project.

【新型テントの見学会を行ないました / A Showcase of a Newly Developed Tent】
日本赤十字看護大学附属災害救護研究所がテント企業様と共同開発をした、新型医療テントの見学会を当院にて実施しました。災害救護研究所は災害支援者側の脱炭素化について研究を行なっており、当部署はその研究に協働しています。人道支援活動は、資機材の輸送や発電機の使用など、活動そのもので二酸化炭素の排出をしています。テントは支援活動に必要な資機材の中でも最も重いものに分類され、また、夏場の空調は最も消費電力が大きいです。
本日お披露目をした医療テントは、耐久性に問題が出ない範囲でできる限り軽量化されています。また、エネルギーを使用せずに従来テントよりもテント内温度を下げる特殊膜を使用しています。
もっとも気温が高い時間帯の中、各メディア、支援団体の皆様に、開発着手から５年、ようやく社会実装に至ったテントを体験していただきました。

A showcase of a new medical tent, jointly developed by Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing Disaster Management Research Institute and a tent manufacturer, was held at our hospital.
The Institute is conducting research on decarbonizing the activities of humanitarian responders, and our department is collaborating in this research. Humanitarian operations themselves generate carbon dioxide emissions through activities such as transporting equipment and operating generators. Among the equipment required for humanitarian response, tents are some of the heaviest items to transport, while air conditioning is one of the largest sources of electricity consumption during the summer months.
The medical tent unveiled today has been made as lightweight as possible without compromising durability. It also uses a special membrane designed to reduce the temperature inside the tent compared with conventional tents, without requiring any additional energy.
During the hottest part of the day, representatives from the media and humanitarian organizations had the opportunity to experience the tent firsthand. Five years after its development began, the new medical tent has finally reached the stage of practical implementation.

【熊本地震への救護班第1班が帰阪しました！　Japanese Red Cross Medical Relief Team Returns from Kumamoto】

8月7日（金）、当院の救護班第1班が、令和8年熊本地震の被災地での活動を終え、無事に帰阪しました。

今回の救護班は、八代市内の避難所を中心に、巡回診療や健康相談を行うとともに、段ボールベッドの設置など、避難所の環境整備にも取り組みました。

活動中には、テレビ大阪の取材も受け、被災地での救護班の活動についてお伝えしました。

厳しい猛暑の中での活動となりましたが、体調不良者を出すことなく、全員無事に活動を終えることができました。

被災地では、今も支援を必要とされている方々がいます。
当院からは今後も、救護班に加えて、コーディネートチームやこころのケアチームの派遣を予定しています。

被災された皆さまが一日も早く安心して生活を取り戻せるよう、引き続き支援を続けてまいります。

On Friday, August 7, our first medical relief team returned safely to Osaka after completing its mission in the areas affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.

The team provided mobile medical consultations and health support at evacuation centers, mainly in Yatsushiro City. They also helped improve the living environment at evacuation centers, including the installation of cardboard beds.

During their mission, the team was also interviewed by TV Osaka about their activities and medical relief efforts in the affected areas.

Despite working under extremely hot conditions, all team members completed their activities safely without any heat-related health problems.

Support for the affected communities is continuing. In addition to medical relief teams, Osaka Red Cross Hospital plans to dispatch coordination teams and psychosocial support teams in the coming weeks.

We will continue to support the affected communities and stand with those working to rebuild their lives.

For our August online seminar, we will welcome a speaker who, after gaining clinical experience at Japanese Red Cross Osaka Hospital, pursued graduate studies in global health and is now working in the field of international cooperation.
The speaker will share the experiences and motivations that led her from clinical practice to a career in global health, as well as her career journey and what she learned in graduate school. She will also introduce a maternal and child health and nutrition project for refugees in Uganda, in which she was involved as an intern during her graduate studies.
By learning about the speaker’s graduate studies and field experience, this seminar will offer participants an opportunity to explore the field of global health, gain insight into one possible career path in the sector, and consider different ways of engaging in international cooperation.
We warmly invite anyone interested in international cooperation or global health to join us.

【コミュニティヘルスワークショップに参加！Community Health Workshop!!】
8月1、2日、日本赤十字社愛知医療センター名古屋第二病院にて「コミュニティヘルスワークショップ」が開催され、当院から看護師・薬剤師・事務管理要員が参加しました。「コミュニティヘルス（地域保健）」とは、地域住民が主体となって健康を守る取り組みのこと。研修では日赤の国際活動事例やエスワティニ赤十字メンバーによる活動紹介、国際赤十字連盟スタッフによるNCDs（非感染性疾患）の最新情報のほか、地域ニーズを把握する調査手法（KAP調査・FGD等）の講義・演習が行われました。特に全員参加の調査演習は熱量が高く、「具体的にイメージできた」「もっと演習したい！」と職種を越えて活発な意見が飛び交う充実した時間となりました。地域は活動の中心（People-Centered）であり、この視点は国際活動に不可欠です。現地の人々が主体となって健康を守れるよう、現場のニーズに寄り添った支援を実践してまいります。

On August 1–2, a Community Health Workshop was held at the Japanese Red Cross Aichi Medical Center Nagoya Daini Hospital. Nnurses, a pharmacist, and an administrative officer from our hospital participated in the program. Community health is an approach that empowers local people to take the lead in protecting and improving their own health. During the workshop, participants learned about the Japanese Red Cross Society's international health activities, heard presentations from members of the Eswatini Red Cross Society, and received the latest updates on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The workshop also included lectures and practical exercises on community assessment methods, such as Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) surveys and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The interactive exercises were especially engaging, with participants from different professions actively exchanging ideas. Many commented that the activities helped them better understand how to assess community needs and wished there had been even more practical sessions. Communities are at the heart of humanitarian action. Guided by this people-centered approach, we will continue working alongside local communities and provide support that responds to their real needs.

【救護班の出発をNHK・MBSが取材しました。NHK and MBS Covered the Departure of Our Red Cross Relief Team】

熊本へ向けて出発した救護班第1班の出発の様子を、NHKおよび毎日放送（MBS）に取材していただきました。

救護班は、大阪赤十字病院・高槻赤十字病院・日本赤十字社大阪府支部のスタッフで編成されており、熊本での活動についても引き続き取材が予定されています。

NHKでは、8月3日（月）午前7:45頃から放送予定の「おはよう関西」で紹介される予定です。

今後は、近畿地区の赤十字病院が交代で救護班1班と赤十字コーディネートチーム1班を派遣し、被災地での支援活動を継続していきます。

現地で活動する隊員の安全と、被災された皆さまの一日も早い復旧を願っています。

NHK and MBS Covered the Departure of Our Red Cross Relief Team

The departure of the first Red Cross relief team heading to Kumamoto was covered by NHK and Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS).

The team, consisting of staff from Osaka Red Cross Hospital, Takatsuki Red Cross Hospital, and the Japanese Red Cross Society Osaka Chapter, is scheduled to continue receiving media coverage during its activities in Kumamoto.

The departure is expected to be featured on NHK’s “Ohayo Kansai” program at approximately 7:45 a.m. on August 3.

Red Cross hospitals across the Kansai region will continue deploying relief teams and coordination teams on a rotating basis to support ongoing disaster response efforts.

We wish the team a safe mission and hope for the swift recovery of all those affected.

Today, our first rotation of medical relief team departed for the areas affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
The team will provide mobile medical care, primarily at evacuation shelters in Yatsushiro City, supporting the health and well-being of people affected by the disaster.
Our team is committed to standing alongside those affected and providing compassionate medical support. We sincerely hope that everyone impacted by the earthquake will be able to return to a safe and peaceful daily life as soon as possible.
