🚨 One of the Most Tragic Stories in football.. 😣⚽🇨🇴💔⬇️
At the 1994 World Cup, Colombia entered as dark horses with a golden generation. In a crucial group stage match against the USA, defender Andrés Escobar tried to block a cross but accidentally deflected the ball into his own net. 💔
The USA won 2–1 and Colombia were eliminated, a devastating blow to a nation already under immense pressure from violence, politics, and drug cartels.
Just 10 days later, on July 2, 1994, Andrés Escobar was out with friends in Medellín. After the group split up, he was alone in a parking lot when he was confronted by men who taunted him over the own goal. One of them pulled a gun and shot him six times, reportedly yelling “¡Goooool!” with each shot.
He was only 27.
Andrés Escobar had written after the match that "life doesn’t end here." But for him, it did. His death became a symbol of how far football had fallen into the grip of Colombia’s darkest forces. 💔🇨🇴
