Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation

Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation Statistics show that one in ten women suffer from endometriosis. In March 2019, Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation, launched the yellow nails movement. b. c. d. e.

Based in Nairobi and Thika, Endo Sisters EA Foundation has been formed with the vision of promoting early diagnosis and keeping hope alive for endometriosis (endo) warriors and those with associated menstrual disorders. In this respect, the mission of Endo Sisters East Africa Foundation is to educate, share information, collaborate and encourage women living with Endometriosis and other menstrual

disorders. The Yellow Nails Movement is a campaign aimed at sensitization and driving participation for endometriosis awareness creation. The movement aims to create a visual identifier for endometriosis through yellow nails and the traditionally known yellow ribbons given that yellow is the global endo colour. The call to action is ‘paint nails yellow’ and upload the said yellow nails photos on social media using . The target audience of this campaign are women and adolescents (teens included) of child bearing age who can either be accessed through salons, nail bars, schools or through social media. Men and Boys can also participate by tagging friends and posting on endometriosis awareness, with the hashtag . This campaign was initially supported by the launch slogan, ‘start the conversation’. As we continue with the conversation in its second year and as a reflection of the program work that we are engaged in, our thematic message is ‘Be informed, take action!’

Specifically, it is our hope and prayer that our campaign:

a. Will get women and particularly adolescent girls to seek out more information and early diagnosis. Will cause Endometriosis (and other menstrual disorders) to be recognized and included in the national reproductive agenda and Education Curriculum, in both Kenya and neighboring East African countries. Will help create a framework where accessibility to treatment in terms of subsidized costs and locations will be enhanced. Will help in the management of endometriosis particularly in terms of slowing endometriosis progression and infertility diagnosis. Will extend as a recognized endometriosis awareness identifier throughout Africa and globally. In conclusion, we at Endosisters East Africa Foundation envision a future, where yellow nails will psychologically be associated with endometriosis awareness globally. This Infertility Awareness Month, we are dedicated to sensitizing the public on infertility. While the journey can feel daunting, knowing your options can bring clarity and hope.

Based on guidance from the NHS, here is a breakdown of common treatments for infertility:

Lifestyle Changes: For some, simple adjustments can significantly improve fertility. This may include maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, and reducing alcohol intake.

Medication: Often the first step for those who are not ovulating regularly. Medications like Clomifene or Letrozole can encourage the ovaries to release eggs.

Surgical Procedures: Depending on the underlying cause, surgery may be an option. For example, procedures can unblock fallopian tubes or remove conditions like endometriosis or fibroids that can impact conception.

Assisted Conception:

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): S***m is placed directly inside the womb around the time of ovulation.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilized with s***m in a laboratory. The resulting embryo is then placed back into the womb.

Donor Treatments: If there are issues with your own eggs or s***m, using donor eggs, s***m, or embryos is a path many families choose. ❤️

Your Key Takeaway: No two journeys are the same. The "right" treatment is always personalized based on your specific diagnosis, your health, and your family-building goals.

The Connection: Endometriosis, Fibroids, and Infertility 💛
As we observe Infertility Awareness Month, it’s vital to talk about the underlying conditions that often make the journey to conception so challenging.

Conditions like endometriosis and uterine fibroids are leading contributors to struggles with fertility.

Endometriosis can cause inflammation, scar tissue, and adhesions that affect the pelvic organs, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Fibroids—depending on their size and location, particularly submucosal ones—can distort the uterine cavity and impact implantation.

Understanding these links is the first step toward seeking proactive care and exploring options tailored to your reproductive health goals. You are not defined by your diagnosis, and you do not have to walk this path alone.

It is high time we start treating heavy menstrual bleeding with the seriousness it deserves. A recent report from BBC Future highlights a critical truth: we have been vastly underestimating the long-term health impacts of heavy periods.

Far too often, heavy bleeding is dismissed as just a "normal" part of life, but this normalization can mask underlying conditions and lead to severe, long-term health consequences that go beyond just discomfort.
Understanding the true impact of heavy bleeding is the first step toward demanding better care and faster diagnosis, read more here on this report https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20260720-weve-been-underestimating-the-health-impacts-of-heavy-periods
