On Saturday, SHIW represented by Makokha Pius and Abdulmalik Firtz proudly joined over 1,000 participants in the Mental Health Awareness Walk held in Mombasa under the theme “More Good Days Together”.

Co-organised by the County Government of Mombasa, KCPA Mombasa Chapter, and KRCS Mombasa Branch, the event created a powerful platform to raise awareness on mental health and well-being, challenge stigma and discrimination, encourage help-seeking behaviours, and strengthen referral pathways for specialised support within the county.

SHIW was honoured to showcase its ongoing work in promoting mental health and psychosocial support interventions for young people, while also connecting and collaborating with other stakeholders championing mental wellness.

Together, we continue to advocate for a society where mental health matters, support is accessible, and no one walks alone. 💜

A big thank you to everyone who joined our webinar on understanding sexual consent🥳

F.R.I.E.S.

Hear us out, not the food😂.

The month of April is globally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness and challenging harmful norms that perpetuate sexual violence.

Its relevance today remains urgent, as we continue to see troubling trends that highlight how deeply rooted issues of consent, power, and accountability still are. It serves as a reminder that beyond awareness, there is a need for collective action to create safer, more respectful communities.

We culminated the awareness month, by hosting a powerful and deeply engaging webinar on understanding sexual consent, bringing together 50 young people in a space that was honest, reflective, and necessary.

What stood out most was how quickly the conversation moved beyond definitions into real-life realities. The grey areas, the pressure, the silence, and the misconceptions that continue to shape how consent is understood and practiced.

We grounded our discussion in a simple but powerful framework:

Consent must be Freely given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific.
And even more importantly, that silence, fear, or pressure can never substitute for consent.

It was clear that many of the challenges are not about lack of awareness, but about unlearning harmful norms, navigating power dynamics, and creating safer environments where boundaries are respected.

Spaces like these matter because they allow young people to ask questions they don’t ask anywhere else to challenge what they’ve normalized, and to begin shaping healthier, more respectful interactions.

The conversation doesn’t end here, it continues beyond the webinar, in the community we’re building and the actions we take moving forward.

Thankyou for delivering so powerfully, and making the session very engaging, and also importantly, making the space so space for a topic too often spoken in hush tones.

A big shoutout as well to the activity lead, , for the coordination and amazing moderation.

See you all on the next one 💫 .

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💜

A gentle reminder that your mind deserves the same care, patience, and compassion as your body. It’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to not have everything figured out right now.

Some days will feel lighter, others heavier, and both are valid. Healing isn’t linear, growth isn’t rushed, and progress doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. What matters is that you keep showing up for yourself in whatever way you can, even if that just means getting through the day.

Reach out when you need support, set boundaries when you need space, and give yourself credit for the quiet strength it takes to keep going. You don’t have to carry everything on your own.

This month, and every month, choose kindness toward yourself. You are worthy of care, understanding, and peace. 💜

Day 3, the final chapter of an inspiring journey at the World Health Summit. Over the past days, we’ve engaged in powerful discussions, exchanged bold ideas, and built meaningful partnerships focused on advancing global health.

Today marks not just the closing of the summit, but the beginning of turning these conversations into real, lasting impact.

As we wrap up, we leave with renewed energy, stronger collaborations, and a shared commitment to building resilient, equitable health systems for communities around the world.

The conversations may end here, but the work continues, driven by purpose, innovation, and collective action. 🥳
