Kenya’s healthcare challenges are frequently framed as a problem of insufficient funding and limited resources. While financing gaps exist, this narrative obscures a more fundamental issue: systemic failures in accountability, efficiency, and governance.
Over the past decade, significant resources have been directed into the health sector through government budgets, donor funding, faith-based institutions, and private investments. Despite this, healthcare consumers continue to experience high out-of-pocket costs, inconsistent quality of care, opaque billing practices, and limited avenues for redress. This disconnect between investment and outcomes indicates that the core problem is not merely the availability of resources, but how power, incentives, and decision-making are structured within the system.
