"Kenya’s healthcare future is inseparable from its economic future."
That was the central message from Dr. Julius Kipngetich, Group CEO, Jubilee Insurance, during his keynote address at the Kenya Healthcare Federation CEOs' Forum, where he challenged healthcare leaders to look beyond the sector’s immediate pressures and confront the structural realities shaping its sustainability.
Slowing economic growth, rising medical costs, declining donor funding and the urgent need for stronger domestic financing are not isolated challenges. Together, they point to a healthcare system that must rethink how it is financed, how services are delivered and how institutions are built for long-term resilience.
Dr. Kipngetich called for stronger systems, greater efficiency and improved public service delivery alongside an enabling environment where investment and innovation can thrive. His message was clear: incremental reforms will not be enough in an increasingly constrained economic environment.
As Kenya navigates this changing landscape, dialogue between public and private sector leaders will be critical. The private health sector must anticipate emerging challenges, identify opportunities and help shape practical, sustainable solutions for the future.
Which structural reforms do you believe would have the greatest impact on the long-term sustainability of Kenya’s healthcare sector?
