NSIRH Hosts Ministry of Health Delegation for Strategic Engagement on Service Delivery and Institutional Development

Today, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) was honored to host a courtesy visit from the Ministry of Health, led by Director of Curative and Nursing Services Dr. Andrew Toro.

The delegation was warmly welcomed in the boardroom by Ag. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Otieno Oliver Soren, alongside Dr. Linda Kigera (Head of Division Health Administration & Corporate Services), Dr. Dennis Otwori (Head of Division Spinal Health & Specialized Services), Dr. Andrew Muriithi (Head of Division Integrated Health Services), Mr. Joseph Nyamohanga (Assistant Director Health Administration), Rispher Chebet (Nursing Services Manager), and the NSIRH multidisciplinary team.

Discussions focused on service delivery, operational performance, and key areas of institutional development—reaffirming NSIRH’s commitment to advancing specialized spinal health services with innovation and excellence.

NSIRH Marks Official Handover of Director Medical Services Office

Today, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital officially marked the handover of the Director Medical Services office from the outgoing Director Medical Services, Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku, to the incoming Interim Director Medical Services, Dr. Dennis O. Otwori, during a ceremony held at the hospital boardroom.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku for his dedicated leadership, commitment, and invaluable contribution to the growth and transformation of the institution. His stewardship has played a significant role in strengthening service delivery and advancing the hospital's mission.

As Dr. Dennis O. Otwori assumes office as Interim Director Medical Services, we congratulate him and wish him success in his new role. In his remarks, Dr. Otwori emphasized teamwork, commitment, and continuous improvement, noting that the hospital remains a place that gives patients a second chance by restoring hope, independence, and mobility.

Empowering Future Spine Rehabilitation Leaders

‎Today, KMTC Port Reitz Neuroscience Rehabilitation students began a 3-day educational tour at the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH), focusing on spine and rehabilitation care.
‎
‎Representing Top Management, Nursing Service Manager Rispher Chebet warmly welcomed the students to NSIRH. She was joined by Ag. Student Coordinator Jannette Sang and Head of Physiotherapy Benjamin Wambua. Physiotherapist John Luchwala Masinde highlighted NSIRH’s role as the only public hospital offering specialized spinal cord injury (SCI) care in Kenya, East Africa, and Central Africa.

‎The students engaged in insightful sessions led by our Multidisciplinary Team, covering Medical Management, Nursing Care, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychological Support, Clinical Medicine, Nutrition, and Orthopedic Technology.
‎
‎Key lessons included proper management of spinal injury patients, prevention of complications, the impact of road traffic accidents, and the importance of early referral for specialized care.
‎
‎The visit concluded with a guided hospital tour led by Masinde, giving the students a firsthand experience of NSIRH’s comprehensive rehabilitation services and leaving them inspired by the hospital’s commitment to excellence in spine rehabilitation.

Exciting Milestone for NSIRH!

‎Today, the new Outpatient Building was officially handed over to the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) Director Medical Services, Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku, by contractor Julius Sabila following a productive handover meeting in the boardroom.

‎The NSIRH team toured the modern facility, guided by Dr. Dennis Otwori, Head of the Division of Spinal Health and Specialized Services. Together with the Public Works team, contractor, and quantity surveyor, they explored the department rooms designed to strengthen patient care.
