“She cried for less than 10 seconds.
I cried inside because I realized I had just done something that could protect her for decades.” 🥹❤️
Today my daughter got her HPV vaccine.
As we walked out of the clinic, she had already moved on. She was asking for a snack, talking about something completely unrelated, and living life the way only children can.
But I couldn’t stop thinking.
She has no idea what happened today.
She has no idea that one tiny injection represents years of scientific research, hope, and the possibility of preventing a disease that has stolen far too many mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends.
She has no idea…
And honestly?
She doesn’t have to.
That’s my job.
Because motherhood has never been about making easy choices.
It’s about making the right ones—even when our children are too young to understand why.
Today I wasn’t just holding the hand of my little girl.
I was holding the hand of the woman she will one day become.
The woman who will chase her dreams.
The woman who may one day become a mother herself.
The woman who deserves every chance to live a long, healthy life.
As a doctor, I know the evidence.
I know that the HPV vaccine protects against the types of HPV responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.
I know it is safest and most effective when given before exposure to the virus.
But today…
I wasn’t thinking like a doctor.
I was thinking like a mum.
A mum who looked at her little girl and silently prayed,
“May I always make decisions that protect you, even when you don’t understand them yet.” ❤️
People sometimes ask why girls receive this vaccine so young.
The answer is simple.
Because prevention doesn’t wait for danger to arrive.
We put children in car seats before an accident.
We teach them to swim before they fall into water.
We vaccinate before disease has the opportunity to cause harm.
Protection works best when it comes first.
And that’s exactly what today was about.
Protection.
Not fear.
Not assumptions.
Not judgment.
Just love.
The quiet, ordinary kind of love that shows up in clinic waiting rooms, signs consent forms, wipes away tears after a tiny injection, and buys ice cream on the way home. 🍦🥹
My daughter may never remember today.
She won’t remember the nurse’s smile.
She won’t remember the little pinch in her arm.
She probably won’t remember how tightly I held her hand.
But I will.
Because today reminded me that some of the greatest acts of motherhood will never make it into family photo albums.
No applause.
No trophies.
No certificates.
Just countless invisible decisions made out of love.
Today I chose to protect my daughter in a way that may benefit her years from now.
And for that…
I’m incredibly proud of myself.
Not because I’m a perfect mother.
Far from it.
I second-guess myself every single day.
I wonder if I’m doing enough.
If I’m getting it right.
If I’m raising kind humans.
But today?
Today I can look at my daughter and quietly tell myself,
“Well done, Mama.” ❤️
To every parent reading this:
Please don’t let fear or misinformation make decisions for you.
Ask questions.
Speak to trusted healthcare professionals.
Read credible information.
Then make the choice that’s right for your child.
Our daughters deserve the chance to grow into healthy women with futures full of possibilities.
My little girl walked into a clinic today holding my hand.
She walked out with something far greater than a vaccine.
She walked out carrying one more layer of protection wrapped in a mother’s love.
And if one day she asks me what I did to protect her while she was growing up…
I’ll smile and remember today.
Because sometimes the greatest expressions of love don’t look dramatic.
Sometimes…
they look like a brave little girl, a tiny injection, and a mother whispering,
“I’ve got you, sweetheart. Today, tomorrow, and for as long as I can.” ❤️🥹
If you’re raising a daughter, know this: every informed decision you make today has the power to shape her tomorrow.
Here’s to raising healthy girls who grow into strong, thriving women. 💕🌸
