MEDS staff participated in the 22nd Annual Scientific Conference of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association (KPA), held at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa, from 29th July to 1st August 2026.

Held under the theme, "Optimizing Pharmaceutical Practice Excellence for Patient Safety and Medicines Access," the conference provided a strategic platform for advancing professional pharmacy practice and shaping the future of healthcare in Kenya. The scientific sessions emphasized evidence-based practice, ethical leadership, continuous professional development, patient-centered pharmaceutical care, digital health and innovation as key drivers of excellence in pharmaceutical services.

The conference also highlighted Kenya's national policy direction towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the Social Health Authority (SHA), Digital Health Authority (DHA) underscoring the critical role of qualified pharmaceutical professionals and pharmaceutical institutions in strengthening medicines regulation, quality assurance, antimicrobial stewardship, resilient supply chains, local pharmaceutical manufacturing and equitable access to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines. These priorities align with the country's ongoing health sector reforms and reinforce the importance of a competent, accountable and future-ready pharmaceutical workforce.

MEDS participation reaffirmed its commitment to professional Pharmacy practice excellence and its strategic role in supporting national and global health priorities. Building stronger partnerships for better health outcomes.
Today, MEDS led by the Commercial Services Director, Mr. Titus Munene Mโ€™Maeti, hosted a consultative meeting with the Executive Director, Health NGOs' Network Dr. Margaret Lubaale to explore strategic areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery. Discussions focused on expanding access to Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Nutrition Health (RMNCAHN) commodities, enhancing capacity through trainings, identifying opportunities for proposal development, advocacy for supply chain, resource mobilization and other impactful partnerships.
The engagement also reinforced our shared resolve to champion advocacy for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), accelerate progress in maternal, newborn and child health and support the implementation of Kenya's National Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Rapid Results Initiative. Together, we seek to strengthen health system resilience, expand equitable access to quality-assured health products and services and foster innovation that improves health outcomes for all.

MEDS joined the County Government of Migori, KEMSA and other partners in conducting a sensitization training for Government of Kenya (GoK) health facility in-charges and pharmacists on Health Products and Technologies (HPT) procurement processes, reinforcing best practices that promote efficient, transparent and reliable access to quality health products.
The training equipped participants with practical knowledge on Revolving Fund Health Facility (RHF) onboarding, optimal utilization of the MEDS catalogue, e-commerce solutions and streamlined ordering processes. This empowered health facilities to strengthen procurement efficiency and enhance service delivery.

Access to quality mental healthcare begins with a skilled frontline health workforce.
Clinical Officers and Nurses in Nakuru County are strengthening their capacity through the World Health Organization's Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP), gaining practical skills to identify, assess, manage and appropriately refer people living with priority mental, neurological and substance use conditions.
Speaking during a training, County Mental Health Coordinator Madam Lydiah Nyaga encouraged healthcare workers to apply the mhGAP Intervention Guide in primary healthcare settings to ensure timely care and appropriate referrals, helping reduce pressure on referral hospitals while bringing quality mental healthcare closer to communities.
The training is implemented through a partnership between the County Government of Nakuru, the Ministry of Health, Amref Health Africa and MEDS under the Johnson & Johnson-funded Health Systems Strengthening Programme.
