It is exciting to see the The County Government of Bomet learning from the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet’s experience in establishing and operationalizing its Emergency Dispatch Center.

County-to-county learning is essential to strengthening Emergency Medical Services across Kenya. Counties should not have to develop emergency dispatch and ambulance coordination systems in isolation. By sharing practical experience, implementation lessons, and tested approaches, they can build stronger systems faster, reduce duplication, and make better use of limited resources.

It is equally important that these systems are interoperable. Dispatch centres, ambulances, public emergency departments, and national agencies must be able to communicate and coordinate seamlessly, particularly when emergencies and patient referrals cross county boundaries.

This is why we designed Ambulensi as a shared, scalable, and interoperable platform that can support all 47 counties while allowing each county to tailor its emergency medical services to its local needs, priorities, and existing systems.

We commend County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet for sharing its experience and look forward to supporting The County Government of Bomet as it strengthens its emergency response system.

🚑 Marsabit County has taken an important step toward strengthening and sustaining its emergency healthcare services.

The launch of the County Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Medical Care policy documents, together with the Emergency Dispatch Centre, provides a stronger foundation for coordinated emergency response across the county.

These policy documents are critical because they help embed emergency healthcare services within county systems — supporting planning, governance, ambulance coordination, referral pathways, facility readiness, and long-term sustainability.

Developed through collaboration between the County Government of Marsabit, Malteser International, and Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation, this milestone reflects what is possible when counties and partners work together to build stronger emergency healthcare systems to save lives.

🚑 Stronger coordination means more lives saved.

Before the launch of the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet Emergency Dispatch Center, emergency response in the county faced significant delays. Calls were not centrally coordinated, ambulances were inconsistently deployed, and health facilities were not always prepared to receive patients.

Three months after the launch, early progress is clear.

By connecting emergency calls, dispatch teams, ambulances, and health facilities into one coordinated system, response times are improving and care is becoming more reliable when it matters most.

This is what Emergency Medical Services should look like: coordinated, efficient, and patient-centered.

Through Ambulensi, Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation is working with county governments to strengthen public ambulance services across Kenya to save lives.

Since we started our Digitised county Ambulance Dispatch centre we have reduced our average response time from 7.3 hrs in April, 2.7 Hours in may to 2 hours in June and Cases handled increased from 93 in April,140 in May to 200 in June reflecting increased efficiency in our Ambulance response.

🚑 Kenya’s plan to launch its first National Ambulance Dispatch Center is a major step toward strengthening emergency healthcare services.

Emergency medical care does not begin at the hospital. It begins the moment someone calls for help, and the system must respond quickly, coordinate the nearest ambulance, and prepare the receiving health facility.
