Siaya County Referral Hospital (SCRH), in collaboration with Cure Kenya International, yesterday conducted an in-reach program that provided vital assessments for children with disabilities. This initiative targeted individuals aged 18 and below, offering thorough evaluations for various conditions. The outcome of this program was the booking of numerous children for corrective surgery at CURE Children's Hospital of Kenya in Kijabe, which will be provided free of charge.

This impactful assessment attracted over one hundred clients, many of whom are now slated for life-changing corrective surgeries.
Treza Onyango, the hospital team lead, lauded the Kijabe team for their commendable efforts, emphasizing the positive impact of early identification within the County. She highlighted the success in reaching even very young children, attributing this to comprehensive training programs for community health assistants, who in turn educated Community Health Promoters (CHPs), religious leaders, and other stakeholders on early disability identification through observation.

Siaya County Referral Hospital sincerely thanks every parent and guardian who attended the exercise and all the stakeholders that made sure the day was a success.

Siaya County Referral Hospital, in partnership with AIC Cure Hospital, is pleased to inform members of the public that a specialized Orthopaedic and Reconstructive Mobile Clinic will be held on **17th June 2026** at Siaya County Referral Hospital.

We encourage healthcare workers, community health promoters, parents, guardians, and members of the public to identify and refer patients living with orthopaedic and congenital conditions for assessment and possible treatment.

Conditions to be referred include, but are not limited to:

✅ Bow legs (Genu Varus) and Knock Knees (Genu Valgus)
✅ Genu Recurvatum
✅ Neglected Clubfoot
✅ Chronic Osteomyelitis
✅ Polydactyly and Symbrachydactyly
✅ Hemimelia and Phocomelia
✅ Blount's Disease
✅ Avascular Necrosis
✅ Perthes Disease
✅ Severe Leg Length Discrepancies
✅ Windswept Deformities
✅ Flat Feet (Pes Planus)
✅ Undescended Te**es
✅ Ambiguous Genitalia
✅ Arthrogryposis

This outreach presents an opportunity for patients to receive expert evaluation closer to home. Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life.

FAMILY TRACING APPEAL

This lady, an unknown African female, is currently admitted at the Psychiatric unit of our hospital, she was brought to Siaya County Referral Hospital by police officers who picked her by the road. Due to her current mental state, she is unable to communicate effectively, making it difficult to establish her identity or contact her family members.

Efforts by the hospital and relevant authorities to trace her relatives have so far been unsuccessful. We are therefore appealing to members of the public who may recognize her or have any information regarding her identity, family, or place of residence to kindly come forward.

• Minor oral surgeries
• Denture fabrication

These services are being provided by our dedicated dentist, Dr. Miriam Mumbe, together with her skilled dental team, who are committed to delivering quality and affordable oral healthcare.

On 5th May,2026 Siaya County Referral Hospital joined the world in celebrating the International Day of the Midwife under the theme, *One Million More Midwives.*

Our dedicated midwives came together to honor their vital role in safeguarding the health of mothers and newborns. The celebration was graced by members of hospital management, including the Medical Superintendent, Hospital Administrator, and Nursing Services Manager, who commended the midwives for their unwavering commitment to quality maternal and newborn care.
Speaking during the event, midwife Kevin Odhiambo described the occasion as “a special moment to recognize the impact and the backbone of safe motherhood.”

We celebrate and appreciate all midwives for their compassion, professionalism, and tireless efforts in ensuring safe deliveries and healthier families.
