We mean well. We really do.

Sometimes, we're scared of the unknown, of losing access to that country club, of losing status.

But some of what we say to men going through a job loss or career transition actually makes it harder for them to open up.

Swipe for what helps instead. Save this and share it with someone who might need it.

June is Men's Mental Health Month.

The narrative around men and strength is shifting. Slowly, but it is shifting.

The men who reach out for coaching, for counselling, for a conversation with someone who is not going to judge the answer are not the ones who gave up.

They are the ones who decided that performing fine was costing too much.

OAW works with men navigating career transitions, workplace change, and the weight of carrying more than is visible. In-person. Virtual. Confidential.

Losing a job in Kenya hits differently.

Your role was more than a salary. It was school fees. It was what you told people at family gatherings, at your local, at church. It was part of how you understood yourself.

For many men, it was also the thing they never admitted was carrying too much weight.

June is Men's Mental Health Month. And this year, we are talking about the men who received the news at work and told no one at home for weeks, months even.

The men who kept applying, kept showing up, kept performing. Alone.

That is not strength. That is a man who needs to be held too.

If that is you, or someone you know: we are here.

Something worth sitting with this June:

Presenteeism costs the global economy over a trillion dollars a year. Not because people are absent, but because they are present and running at a fraction of their capacity. For your senior managers, knowledge workers and client-facing teams, that gap is not a wellness issue. It is a performance issue with a measurable price tag.
Our June brief covers the trends shaping the back half of 2026 and three tools you can implement this month without a new budget or a new programme.
Read. It's worth the five minutes.

When leadership communicates poorly during restructuring, employees don't stop paying attention.

They stop trusting.

This month we're talking about what change actually costs: the people who leave, the people who stay, and what it looks like when organisations hold both well.

40%.

That is the average productivity drop among employees who kept their jobs, in the six months after a major organisational change.

The organisations that recover fastest are not the ones with the sharpest new strategy. They are the ones that held both groups through the change.

As employee wellness month comes to a close, next month, next week, needs to be different. It's all up to you.

The weight you can't quite name on a Monday morning. The meeting you used to lead with energy that now just feels like something to get through.

This one is for you, not your organisation.

Watch. Then take the step.

Three things happen in teams before a high performer leaves.

Most organisations see them. Almost none read them correctly.

This carousel is for every manager and HR professional who has ever been surprised by a resignation they did not see coming - or watched a strong employee slowly become a shadow of who they were when they started.

These are not character issues. They are signals. And they have practical responses.

Swipe through. Save it for your next one-to-one or team review. Share it with a leader in your network who manages people.

And if you recognise your own team in any of these slides, talk about it and support your team. It all starts with one conversation at a time.

An operations director came to OAW not because his team was struggling. He came because a board member mentioned us and he was curious.

What he described in that first conversation was a pattern he had not yet named: three resignations in six months, two high performers going quiet, a team lead calling in sick every Monday.

He thought he was watching separate events.

He was watching a support gap.

OAW activated a simple EAP for his team - one email to HR, one internal note to employees, sessions covered under their existing insurance panel. Within 90 days, utilisation hit 18%. The team lead who had been absent was back, and three months later was running an internal training session.

We tell this story not to make a case for OAW. We tell it because the leaders who move early are the ones who see the shift soonest.

If anything in here feels familiar, send us a message.
