πŸ€— Connection Is Medicine Too

One of the things psychiatrists recommend most for mental health isn't found in a pharmacy, it's spending time with people we trust.

Human connection plays a powerful role in how we cope with stress, sadness, and difficult moments in life. Talking with someone who listens, sharing a meal, or simply spending time together can ease feelings of loneliness and help us feel supported.

Isolation can quietly affect our mental health, especially during hard times.

πŸ’™ If you're going through a hard time and feel like you have no one to talk to, our team at the health center is here for you too.

🩺 Bringing Specialized Care to Children Who Need It Most

Once a month, a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, physiotherapists, and administrative staff travels from Phnom Penh to visit patients from SAM ID, a project we proudly collaborate with that supports children with intellectual disabilities.

Over two days, this visiting team works hand in hand with our local staff to see each child, provide specialized care, and deliver the medication they need to continue their treatment.

These visits make a real difference, bringing expert care closer to children who would otherwise face major barriers to accessing it.

Thank you to the SAM ID team and everyone involved for this ongoing partnership. Together, we keep building a healthier future for these children. πŸ’™

πŸ‘€ Taking Care of Your Eyes

Our eyes work hard every day, but we often forget to take care of them until something feels wrong.

πŸ‘οΈ Simple ways to protect your eyes:
- Avoid rubbing your eyes with dirty hands, this can spread infection
- Rest your eyes regularly if you do close-up work, like sewing or reading
- Protect your eyes from dust, smoke, and strong sunlight with sunglasses
- Eat foods rich in vitamin A, like leafy greens, eggs, and orange vegetables, to support healthy vision
- If a child struggles to see the board at school or sits very close to objects, it may be a sign they need glasses

Good vision affects everything, learning, working, and daily life.

πŸ’¬ Talking Without Blame: A Simple Tool for Stronger Families

In many Cambodian households, conflicts at home, (between parents and children, or couples) often start with blame: "You never listen," "You always do this." These words can hurt, even when we don't mean them to.

Nonviolent Communication offers a simple shift: instead of blaming, try expressing how you feel and what you need.

For example, instead of saying: ❌ "You never help around the house."

Try saying: βœ… "I feel tired when I handle everything alone. Could we share the tasks together?"

This small change makes a big difference. It opens the door to understanding instead of defense, and to connection instead of conflict.

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Challenge Time: Move Your Body, Move the World!! 🌍

This week, we're inviting you to join a simple but powerful challenge: walk for at least 30 minutes every day for one week.

It's easier than you think! Instead of grabbing your moto for a nearby market, try walking there instead. Or better yet, use it as the perfect excuse to go for a walk with friends or family, catch up, and enjoy some quality time together while you move.

πŸ“Έ How to join: Take a photo during your walk and share it on Facebook using . Tag us so we can repost it!

Every photo shared helps us grow this community and reach our goal of 100 followers. It might seem like a small number to some, but for us, it would mean 100 people choosing to stay connected and keep learning about health, and that's a huge win in our eyes.

Let's move together, one step at a time. πŸ’™

🀝 Collaboration Changes Lives πŸ’š

When teams truly work together, incredible things happen. Thanks to the close collaboration between Anatha, Outreach, and Obrum, our health center has been able to reach people who need us most: elderly residents and children in remote villages with no nearby access to healthcare.

Alone, none of our teams could have reached them. Together, we made it possible.

This is the true power of collaboration, it turns limits into possibilities and care into action for those who are hardest to reach.

Thank you to everyone at Anatha, Outreach, and Obrum. Together, we go further. πŸ™πŸ˜

Start your week with a little self-care wisdom! 🧠πŸ’ͺ

Here's what your organs REALLY want you to know:

🧠 Brain β†’ hates staying up late & skipping sleep
🫘 Kidneys β†’ hate painkiller overuse
πŸ«€ Liver β†’ hates excess sugar
🦴 Bones β†’ hate soda
❀️ Heart β†’ hates fast food
πŸ«ƒ Stomach β†’ hates fried foods

Small changes = big energy. This Monday, pick ONE habit from the list and swap it for something better. Your body will thank you! πŸ’›βš‘

🌸 Feel-Good Friday πŸŒ—

🀝 "My Humanity Is Bound Up in Yours, for We Can Only Be Human Together." Desmond Tutu

We are not meant to face hard times alone. In Cambodian communities, we've always leaned on family, neighbors, churchs and pagodas for strength, that spirit matters just as much for mental health. πŸ’›

Someone struggling with stress, grief, or sadness often feels like they're the only one carrying it. But healing rarely happens in isolation, it happens in connection.

πŸ”Έ A short visit to a neighbor who's been quiet lately
πŸ”Έ Sitting with a family member instead of leaving them alone with their thoughts
πŸ”Έ Asking "How are you, really?" and listening to the answer
πŸ”Έ Encouraging someone to speak with a health worker, without judgment

πŸ™ You don't need special training to help someone feel less alone. You just need to show up.

No one should carry their pain by themselves. πŸ‡°πŸ‡πŸ’™

🌱 Green Thursday: Save the Planet with Us! 🌱

πŸ‘΅πŸ‘΄ Don't Forget Grandma and Grandpa When It's Hot

As Cambodia's temperatures keep climbing, our elders are often the most affected. Their bodies don't cool down as easily, and many have health conditions that make heat more dangerous.

Why older family members are more at risk:
πŸ”Έ Their bodies sweat less and adjust to heat more slowly
πŸ”Έ They may not feel thirsty, even when dehydrated
πŸ”Έ They may stay quiet about discomfort, not wanting to "bother" the family

πŸ’› How you can protect them:
βœ… Check in on elderly parents and grandparents during the hottest hours (11am–3pm)
βœ… Remind them to drink water regularly, even without feeling thirsty
βœ… Keep their living space cool and shaded: fans, wet cloths, or a cool bath can help
βœ… Watch for confusion, dizziness, or weakness: these can be signs of heat illness

πŸ™ In Cambodian culture, caring for our elders is a value we hold. As the climate changes, that care matters more than ever.

This hot season, a simple check-in could save a life. πŸ‡°πŸ‡

🦷 Healthy Smiles Start Early

Tooth decay is one of the most common health problems among children in Cambodia but it's also one of the easiest to prevent!

Simple habits for a lifetime of healthy teeth:
βœ… Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
βœ… Limit sugary snacks and sweet drinks, especially before bed
βœ… Never let babies fall asleep with a bottle of milk or juice
βœ… Rinse mouth with water after meals if brushing isn't possible
βœ… Visit a health center if you notice pain, swelling, or dark spots on teeth

😁 Healthy teeth help kids eat well, speak clearly, and smile with confidence.

Start the habit young, it lasts a lifetime! πŸ‡°πŸ‡
