👩🏻‍⚕️ 30 years ago I started my journey as a doctor. And I’m still standing side by side with my colleagues today.

I’ve never once regretted choosing this path, even during the hardest times.

Medicine in general, and cancer treatment in particular, has changed dramatically over these three decades.

Back in the 90s, our main tools were surgery, classic chemotherapy, and basic hormone therapy.

🔬Today, we have access to advanced diagnosis, robotic surgery, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, conjugates (smart drug-delivery therapy), modern radiation techniques, and so much more... In short, an entire arsenal we couldn't have even dreamed of at the end of the last century.

🧬 In fact, we can now turn many advanced, stage IV cancers with distant metastases into manageable chronic conditions. Because medical knowledge is growing so fast, oncology is splitting into sub-specialties like brain tumors, skin cancers, kidney/prostate cancers, or blood cancers. It’s impossible for one doctor to keep up with every single area, so most of us focus deeply on just one to three fields.
..Over these 30 years, I’ve had thousands of heartbreaking conversations with patients and their families: times when you have to choose every single word carefully, offering hope while remaining completely honest...

There were times when the illness won, despite every effort...
But there were also incredible moments of joy and pride—when patients were completely cured, when long-term remission was reached, or when we literally pulled someone back from the edge after staying by their hospital bed for days without sleep.
Working in cancer care teaches you to deeply appreciate every single day.

It shows you how amazingly strong people can be when fighting for their lives, and how much compassionate support matters along the way.

ℹ️ When a homocysteine test is actually necessary:
✔️Suspected rare genetic disorders 🧬 (such as homocystinuria).
✔️Comprehensive evaluation for severe thrombophilia or recurrent pregnancy loss (as prescribed by a Hematologist 👩🏻‍⚕️).
✔️Severe deficiency of vitamin B12 or severe folate (folic acid, vit. B9) deficiency.

📘In evidence-based medicine (sources are below), routine homocysteine testing is NOT recommended for the general population:

❌ It is NOT a screening standard: major cardiology associations (AHA, ESC) do not include homocysteine in the list of routine tests for cardiovascular risk assessment (unlike a lipid panel, glucose, or HbA1c).

❌ Lowering homocysteine does NOT reduce risks: large-scale studies have shown, that lowering elevated homocysteine levels with B vitamins (B6, B9, B12) does NOT reduce the incidence of heart attacks, strokes, or overall mortality.
It serves as a biomarker rather than a direct target for medical treatment.

ℹ️ HOPE-2 Trial: published in the New England Journal of Medicine major study showed that combination therapy with folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 did NOT reduce major vascular events in high-risk patient.

ℹ️ NORVIT and VISP large randomized trials confirmed that reducing serum homocysteine levels does NOT translate to a lower rate of recurrent stroke or coronary event
