30TH ANNIVERSARY OF SELF-EMPLOYED
COVERAGE
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, 1st July 2026 — July 1st, 2026, marks the 30th year since the introduction of Self-employed coverage.
To commemorate the occasion, 30 registered and compliant self-employed professionals were invited to a Brunch and Learn Experience at the Social Security Headquarters in Basseterre.
Participants from across the Federation were selected from amongst the five main areas of registration, including:
Wholesale & Retail Trade
Construction
Transport, Storage & Communications
Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities
Other Community, Social & Personal Activities
The forum provided an opportunity for the Self Employed to engage with the Compliance Department, meet their Inspectors and as an opportunity to explore two new tools as part of Social Security’s digital transformation; the C3 Wizard which allows for submission and payment of contributions to Social Security in real time and the SSB Connect App which provides information on insured persons’ contribution record, pension calculator and additional features. Future developments will include benefit history and claim tracker amongst others.
Participants expressed appreciation for the digital tools and to Social Security for providing a space for networking and learning. Each self-employed person left with the digital tools downloaded to their personal devices, and tokens of appreciation to mark the occasion.
The Self-employed Sector continues to be one of the fastest growing economic drivers.
Throughout the month of observance, both the Compliance and Corporate Communication Departments will engage the self-employed and related associations to strengthen ties and provide further opportunities for broadening coverage through meetings, social media engagement and technical support.
The Social Security Board acknowledges the contributions of the self employed over the last 30 years and thank them for their continued support to securing their respective futures and nation building.
Cheers to 30 more years of formidable strength and growth of the self-employed sector and Social Security’s Self-Employed Coverage
