It’s one thing to say a policy should work. However, do healthy food policies actually change what people buy? Mexico offers an important real-world example.

After the country introduced a tax on sugary drinks, purchases of taxed beverages decreased, with the largest decreases seen among lower-income households.

Purchases of untaxed beverages also increased during the post-tax period.

That matters because it shows that changing the food environment can influence the choices people make, not just in theory, but in the real world, leading to real change.

It was wonderful to screen the SVG Association of Endometriosis, Adenomyosis & PCOS's documentary 'Invisible Pain, Visible Women' as part of our recent Women’s Wellness Community session.

The documentary, produced and directed by FLOAT, with support from CUSO International and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), shines a light on the lived experiences of Vincentian women affected by endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS and other chronic reproductive health conditions.

During the event, women described the documentary as “beautifully crafted” and “very relatable,” a powerful reflection of how deeply the stories resonated with attendees.

A special thank you to Kimmette Robertson, Vice-President; Alysia Dagrosa, Vice-President; and Dr Odelia Thomas, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Endometriosis, Adenomyosis and PCOS, for joining us and providing such valuable insight during the introduction and Q&A.

Thank you also to our facilitator, Shaniyah Wattley, for being such a warm and engaging host, and to everyone who attended and shared their thoughts, questions and experiences.

If you haven’t seen Invisible Pain, Visible Women, we encourage you to watch it. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to those affected by chronic health conditions, recognising their experiences, and continuing to raise awareness of these often misunderstood conditions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent webinar on kidney disease, held in recognition of the Global Week for Action on NCDs.

We were honoured to be joined by members of the Nevis Renal Society, who shared their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on the challenges of preventing, diagnosing, treating, and managing kidney disease, as well as the solutions that can help improve kidney health and support people living with the condition.

A very special thank you to the Nevis Renal Society for such an informative session.

You still have time to register for today’s Women’s Wellness Community session.

For this session, we’re delighted to be partnering with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Endometriosis, Adenomyosis and PCOS for a screening of their documentary 'Invisible Pain, Visible Women', a documentary produced and directed by FLOAT, with support from CUSO International and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The documentary centres the lived experiences of Vincentian women living with endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, and uterine fibroids. While these stories are rooted in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the pain, stigma, and resilience explored in the film reflect those of millions of women around the world.

It’s Week 2 of the Ministry of Health’s Caribbean Wellness Month initiative, and today is T***y Tuesday!

Breast health matters for everyone, both women and men. Today, make a simple pledge to be more aware of your body and more intentional about your health.

✅Know what is normal for you.
✅ Notice any unusual changes.
✅ Act by seeking medical advice if something doesn’t feel or look right.

Early awareness can make all the difference. Take a moment to check yourself, encourage someone you love to do the same, and make breast health part of your regular self-care.

Know. Notice. Act.

Although Global Week for Action on NCDs has ended, the conversations it sparked are still worth carrying forward.

Saros Hendrickson, Director of the Department of Gender Affairs Nevis, highlights why gender needs to be part of the way we think about NCD care and policy. People do not experience the health system in the same way, and factors like social roles, responsibilities and economic circumstances can all affect whether someone is able to access the care they need as well as its quality.

For Saros, strong leadership means recognising those differences and using gender analysis to close the gaps. The goal now is to take that thinking beyond discussion and into delivery.

As St. Kitts and Nevis and Nigeria continue to strengthen their relationship, we were delighted to play our small part in building connections between our two countries. 🇰🇳 🇳🇬

We recently partnered with Gatefield, an NGO based in Abuja, Nigeria, to host an educational webinar on “From Policy to Practice: Strengthening the Implementation of Healthy Food Policies.”

We were pleased to welcome Omei Bongos, Public Health Lead at Gatefield, and Shirley Ewang, Democracy and Governance Lead at Gatefield, who shared valuable lessons from Nigeria’s successful sugar-sweetened beverage taxation advocacy campaign.

The session explored how advocacy, coalition building, media and communications, patient stories, and public mobilisation can help turn policy commitments into meaningful action.

Missed the webinar? You can watch the recording here: https://youtu.be/ATpU3dwUu_w

We’re grateful to Gatefield for sharing their experience and to everyone who joined us for this important conversation.

This webinar was held in recognition of the Global Week for Action on NCDs and as part of the Healthy Food Policy arm of our My Healthy Heroes Project, which is currently being funded by the European Union through the EU-CaN programme and implemented by FIAP and CPVA. We are very grateful for their support.
