On July 27, more than 20 U.S. military personnel—including representatives from Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital (BAACH), the 65th Medical Brigade, and Eighth Army—visited the Regional Trauma Center at Pusan National University Hospital (PNUH).
The visit focused on inspecting emergency medical response systems and strengthening mutual cooperation ahead of the large-scale Korea Rotational Force (KRF) training scheduled for September and October across Busan and Changwon.
Dr. Jae-Hoon Kim, Director of the PNUH Trauma Center, along with two trauma specialists, briefed the delegation on the center's trauma response system and operational status. They also answered inquiries from the U.S. side regarding emergency support and medical care during the training.
Following the briefing, the delegation toured key facilities—including the trauma emergency room, disaster response facility, and the helipad—to observe the hospital's clinical infrastructure and response system.
"We were deeply impressed by the systematic and professional operations of the Regional Trauma Center," a U.S. military representative said. "We appreciate the medical staff for their detailed briefing and support."
"If an emergency arises during the training period, our center will do its best to provide prompt, expert medical support leveraging our advanced infrastructure and specialized staff," Dr. Kim said.

In May 2024, the Department of Pharmacy at Pusan National University Hospital (PNUH) pioneered automated pharmacy services in the region by introducing 'KimiBot,' Busan’s first oncology compounding robot. With the recent official launch of its second unit, 'BomiBot,' PNUH has successfully established the region’s only dual-robot system dedicated to chemotherapy preparation.

Oncology compounding robots are state-of-the-art automated systems designed to precisely compound chemotherapy medications within a sterile environment, ensuring that the exact dosage tailored to each patient is prepared safely. The existing 'KimiBot' currently manages approximately 25% of the hospital's total chemotherapy compounding workload. With 'BomiBot' now integrated, the hospital expects to maximize throughput and shorten patient waiting times.
Furthermore, this dual-robot configuration guarantees uninterrupted compounding services during routine equipment maintenance, bolstering both the continuity and safety of cancer care. Both robots feature sterile environments and safety mechanisms that comply with USP 797 and 800 standards, minimizing potential risks during the compounding process. The system also advances the hospital’s ESG initiatives by delivering environmental benefits, notably through the reduction of biomedical waste.

Prior to this, in 2022, PNUH’s Department of Pharmacy became the first in the region to implement an Automated Dispensing System (ADS) for injectables, an automated Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) compounder, and an Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) system, consistently driving patient safety and pharmacy service innovation. Furthermore, by fostering certified clinical pharmacists across various specialties, PNUH boasts the largest pool of specialized pharmacy personnel outside the Seoul metropolitan area, delivering top-tier pharmacy services that seamlessly integrate cutting-edge systems with expert human resources.

Moving forward, Pusan National University Hospital remains dedicated to fostering a patient-centered, safe, and precise oncology treatment environment driven by advanced automation and professional pharmaceutical services.

Professor Han-seul, Na received the Best Poster Award for research on the objective diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of tinnitus. Professor Sung-won, Choi also participated in this study as the corresponding author. The research attracted academic attention by presenting diagnostic methods using provocation tests and the effectiveness of endoscopy-based treatment.

Pusan National University Hospital (PNUH) operated its regular paid clinical training program for international medical professionals, the PIT (Pusan National University Hospital International Training) Program, from April 6 to 17, 2026, for two ophthalmologists from the Kazakh Eye Research Institute in Kazakhstan.

The training was conducted at PNUH’s Department of Ophthalmology under the guidance of Professor Hee-young Choi. The curriculum included clinical observations, discussions on surgical techniques, and the study of relevant academic papers. The trainees expressed that the systematic program and Professor Choi’s meticulous surgical techniques were highly beneficial in enhancing their practical clinical capabilities.

Additionally, the participants extended their gratitude to the International Health Center, noting that the support from the Russian-speaking coordinators allowed them to participate in the training smoothly.
