First proposed as a theory by psychologist Aaron Beck in 1976, the theory was popularized by David Burns in the 1980's who created common names and examples for the distortions.
To improve our mental health it is crucial to identify which of these thinking traps we're falling into and challenge them using CBT based strategies.
