C**A recently had the privilege of hosting CANPA President, Dr Katija Khan.

Dr. Khan’s visit included an important board planning session, as well as an opportunity to visit several proposed locations for the upcoming 2027 Caribbean Regional Conference of Psychology (CRCP) taking place June 9-11, 2027 at Hotel Indigo, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

World Psychology Day 2026—also known as Psychology Day at the United Nations—is observed on April 23, 2026. It brings together psychologists, policymakers, and global organizations to highlight how psychological science can help address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

The 2026 theme, “Psychological contributions to fostering collective action in uncertain times: Advancing human rights in a world in conflict,” focuses on how psychology supports resilience, peacebuilding, inclusion, and climate action. It emphasizes the role of mental health and human behavior in strengthening communities, protecting human rights, and encouraging collective solutions in a rapidly changing world.

This day serves as a platform to showcase how psychology can drive positive social change—globally and within local communities like the Cayman Islands.

Today we say thank you to all of the psychologists in our community using their expertise, experience and talents to make our community safer, healthier, more equitable and just.

Dorian Lamis, PhD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical psychologist and Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine dedicated to su***de prevention and quality mental health care. He maintains a clinical practice at Grady Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia while leading nationally recognized research on mood disorders and suicidal behavior. His clinical work focuses on the assessment and treatment of high-risk and suicidal individuals, with a particular emphasis on underserved and vulnerable populations. Dr. Lamis has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications and secured funding from NIH, CDC, and SAMHSA to develop evidence-based preventive interventions. His work bridges scientific research and clinical practice, translating research findings into practical strategies that improve access to mental health care and save lives.

Today, the Cayman Islands Psychological Association proudly joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2026.

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that when we invest in women—through opportunity, mentorship, education, and support—we create stronger communities, healthier societies, and a more equitable future for all. (International Women’s Day)

The field of psychology has been profoundly shaped by the contributions of women. From early pioneers who challenged barriers to education and professional practice, to contemporary psychologists advancing research, clinical care, and community wellbeing, women have played a vital role in understanding the human mind and improving lives. Their work has helped shape areas such as developmental psychology, trauma-informed care, community mental health, and culturally attuned evidence-based practice.

Here in the Cayman Islands, we celebrate the women who continue to strengthen the psychological profession—clinicians, researchers, educators, students, and advocates—whose dedication supports the mental health and wellbeing of our communities. Through compassion, leadership, and innovation, women in psychology embody the spirit of giving: giving knowledge, care, mentorship, and advocacy that uplift individuals and families across our islands.

On this International Women’s Day, we honour the women who paved the way, recognize those leading the profession today, and encourage the next generation of women and girls who will shape the future of psychology.

When we support and empower women in science, healthcare, and leadership, we all gain.
