was celebrated in April 2023 from the 11th to the 17th.

Our article, with comments from our Registered Midwife Allie Campbell, offers some insight into the shocking and eye-opening statistics on Black maternal health, raising awareness of the issues Black women still face in the maternity system. We also share some resources for Black women from organisations such as Five X More who offer the 'six steps' guide, including steps they can take to help improve their care.

We join in supporting and increasing education around Black maternal health. As healthcare professionals, we can and should work towards changing these statistics and challenging institutional racism to create a better maternity system for all, regardless of race.

We encourage you this month and beyond to make your health a priority by: maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reaching out if you have concerns or something does not feel right and booking and attending important appointments such as pap smears, antenatal checkups etc.
