Chronic fatigue can be both debilitating and frustrating, and can have a profound effect on your physical and mental health, social life and daily activities.

Fatigue management strategies can be used by people to manage their fatigue, and take control of their symptoms. Here are our Occupational Therapist’s top 5 fatigue management tips:

1️⃣ Understanding your fatigue and how it impacts you is the first step to managing your symptoms. Try using a fatigue diary to map your fatigue and how it changes throughout the day and with different activities you do. You may be able to notice patterns developing - your fatigue may be worse during the morning, or when you have do more mental or cognitive activities such as computer work or talking on the phone.

2️⃣ What does rest mean to to? For some people this could be watching tv or scrolling through your phone. But is this good quality rest? Good quality rest means resting both your body AND your mind. Quality rest is different for everyone - for some it could mean a 20 min nap, for others it could be sitting outside listening to nature.

3️⃣ Pacing is essential for managing fatigue. You don’t have to do everything all in one go - break up activities into manageable chunks with periods of rest or a break in between. Remember who won the race between the tortoise and the hare!

4️⃣ Think of your body as a bank. You need to put money in to be able to spend it. The same is true for energy levels. Everything requires energy - some things more than others. There are things that can add energy to your bank such as rest, food and sleep. Ensure you have enough money (energy) in your bank so you don’t go overdrawn!

5️⃣ It can be tempting to dwell on what you used to be able to do, and compare it to what you are doing now. But instead, try to focus on what you can do, rather than what you can’t - you can still do the things you used to be able to do, you just need to do them differently.

If you are experiencing fatigue and would like support to manage your energy levels and get back to doing the things that matter, make an appointment with our Occupational Therapist. Call 949-8828, or email [email protected]

We wanted to say a huge heartfelt thank you for all the donations we received for Per’s children’s education fund following the 1 year anniversary of his passing and Memorial Cycle Ride, organised by

We have been trying to thank everyone in person, but as some of the donations are anonymous, and some we have no contact details for, this isn’t always possible.

We are so grateful for all the donations that have been received - everyone’s kindness and generosity is so much appreciated. 💚💙
