“Wellness is more than simply the absence of disease. It is an active process directed toward a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.”

-Michelle A. Albert, M.D., M.P.H., FAHA, American Heart Association (AHA) 2022–23 volunteer president

Dr. Albert shared this perspective in an AHA article about the connection between mental wellness, heart health and overall well-being.

Her message is a great reminder that taking care of our hearts means taking care of our whole selves - mind, body and heart. ❤️

Our upcoming 5K Walk/Run carries a name that means a great deal to many people in Cayman.

Capt. Robert Hamaty, who founded Tortuga Rum Company with his wife Carlene in 1984, left behind a lasting legacy of entrepreneurship, community and family.

The Robert Hamaty Memorial 5K brings our community together each year to remember that legacy while supporting the Cayman Heart Foundation's work to improve cardiovascular health across our islands.

On September 27, we walk and run in his memory, for our own hearts and for the health of our community. ❤️

New month. One simple challenge:

Move a little more for your heart. ❤️

Take the stairs. Walk at lunchtime. Get outside with the kids. Meet a friend for a walk instead of a coffee.

And if you want something to work towards, we've got just the goal.

The Robert Hamaty Memorial 5K Walk/Run takes place on Sunday, September 27, just ahead of World Heart Day.

You've got almost four weeks.

Walk it. Run it. Train for it. Just get moving.

❤️ Heart Health Fact: Healthy habits can fit into a busy schedule.

Between work commitments, school runs, and family responsibilities, finding time for healthy choices can sometimes feel challenging. The good news is that supporting heart health doesn’t have to mean complicated meals or major changes.

A few simple habits that can help during a busy week:

🥕 Keep nutritious snacks nearby for busy mornings or afternoons, such as fruit, nuts, yoghurt, or chopped vegetables
💧 Keep a water bottle at your desk or with you throughout the day
🚶 Add movement where you can, whether it’s a short walk during a break or time outdoors with family
🍽️ Plan a few simple, balanced meals ahead, such as overnight oats, prepared salads, grain bowls, or roasted vegetables with lean protein, to make busy evenings easier
⏰ Take moments throughout the day to pause, reset, and prioritise your wellbeing

Whether you’re caring for a family, managing a busy workday, or focusing on your own health, small choices made consistently can help support a healthier lifestyle.

Small steps. Lasting impact!

🌱❤️ It’s never too early to build healthy habits.

A new school year brings new routines, and small everyday choices can help support health and wellbeing throughout the year.

From packing balanced lunches and choosing nourishing snacks to staying active through play, sports, or family walks - healthy habits can be built into the moments we share every day. Getting enough rest, staying hydrated, and making time to connect as a family also play an important role in overall wellbeing.
