Psychotherapy Is Not Just About Taking a Course
Today, psychological knowledge is more accessible than ever. As a result, some people may come to believe that simply taking a psychotherapy course or learning certain techniques is enough to heal themselves or others.
But “knowing techniques” is not the same as practicing psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy requires foundational knowledge, supervised practice, an understanding of human behavior, individual assessment, ethical principles, and deep self-awareness.
Because every person has different wounds and psychological mechanisms, a technique that helps one person may trigger another person’s unresolved wounds.
Good intentions alone are therefore not enough when working with another person’s mind.
Even those who graduate with a degree in psychology still need specialized education, practical training, and continuous professional development.
Because ultimately, healing is not about knowing the most. It is about knowing what you are doing and whether you are capable of taking responsibility for the impact your work may have on another person.
Sometimes, what is dangerous is not “not knowing ” but “knowing only part of it and believing you know enough to heal others ” 😊
