Therapy sessions and Shadow support are not educational pathways in themselves. They are two different forms of support that may accompany various educational settings, depending on the child’s needs.
Therapy Sessions (الجلسات العلاجية)
Therapy sessions are specialized interventions guided by assessment. They target specific areas such as communication and language, motor and sensory skills, attention and regulation, psychological and behavioral skills, and foundational academic abilities.
Clear goals and an individualized plan are developed, progress is monitored, and the intervention is adjusted when needed. When the foundational skills required for learning are not sufficiently developed, acquiring new skills may become much slower, more difficult, or may stall.
Shadow Support (Shadow Teacher)
A Shadow supports the child within the educational environment by helping them understand instructions, regulate behavior and attention, participate in activities, transition between tasks, and gradually become more independent.
Her role is not to replace the classroom teacher or complete tasks on the child’s behalf.
Coordination matters
Therapy sessions do not replace the educational environment, and the educational environment does not replace therapy when it is needed. What matters is coordination between therapeutic goals and the requirements of the educational program.
Every option may be appropriate—but not for every child or at every stage. The key questions remain:
Is the child developing skills?
Is the child making progress?
Is the current level of support still appropriate?
