The Family Rehabilitation Centre is a humanitarian, non-profit, non-governmental organization, founded in August 1992. It is an independent organization with its own Memorandum of Articles of Association and has been incorporated under section 21 of the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982.

- To assist persons affected by trauma such as differently abled, torture survivors and those suff

ering from physical and/or psychological distress, with medical attention, counseling, physiotherapy, and other relevant services.

- Conduct training programmes for relevant persons in the management of trauma affected, basic counseling, befriending and empowerment.

- Network with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations, in order to obtain access to all available services for trauma affected.

- Advocacy to prevent trauma through violence in society.

Great partnerships result in great work.
Following a training provided by FRC, a discussion was held at our offices, on how the training for “friendly helpers” enabled the participants and the community during the recent disaster inflicted by Ditwah cyclone.

At the Annual General Meeting held in December 2025, Ms Shikanthini Varma Attanayake was unanimously appointed the Chairperson of the Family Rehabilitation Centre. Dr Gadambanathan Thanabalasingam, Ms Dilkie Liyanage, Dr Ajith Tennakoon, Mr Tuan Iyne and Mr Mirak Raheem were unanimously re-elected as Board Members.

We sincerely thank and appreciate Dr Gadambanathan for his work and contribution towards FRC during his long tenure as Chairman and are grateful to Dr Ganesan Mahesan as Board Member who stepped down due to his work commitment and expertise needed for the people of our country. We are happy that Dr Gadambanathan has agreed to remain as a Board Member and Dr Ganesan, as a member of FRC along with Dr Nachinarkinian, Dr Sivagurunathan Sivayokan, Dr Palitha Bandara, Ms Naushalya Rajapaksha and Ms Shweta Amalean Master.

We wish the Chairperson, Board of Trustees and Members the very best.

It with deep regret we announce the passing of our former Executive Director Mr A S Poovendran. His mortal remains lie at Mahinda funeral Parlor, Mt Lavinia till 5.00 pm today 3rd January 2026. Last rites will be performed at the same venue at 9.00 am on Sunday 4th January and thereafter will leave for cremation at Mt. Lavinia General Cemetery at 11.00 am.

The Board of Directors, Members and Staff of FRC extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

May his Soul Rest In Peace

The Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) is now equipped with a Digital Virtual Platform in Colombo and Mannar.

This state-of-the-art facility was officially unveiled on 25th September 2025 at our Mannar Centre by Dr. S. Roy, Deputy Director of the District General Hospital, Mannar.

The initiative highlights FRC’s long-standing commitment to delivering high-quality psychosocial interventions, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and fostering meaningful community interactions. The Digital Virtual Platform addresses the need for wider communication by virtually connecting resources with grassroots communities, thereby enhancing awareness, knowledge sharing, and faster connectivity to improve psychosocial well-being.

Training on Trauma, Grief, and Adolescent Mental Health – Mullaitivu
The Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) successfully conducted a capacity-building training for psychosocial service providers in Mullaitivu District on 22nd July 2025 at the District Secretariat.
The session focused on enhancing knowledge and skills in trauma, grief, and adolescent mental health, and was expertly facilitated by Dr. Sivadas.
