🧠 Yoga has the tools to transform the way we relate to our thoughts.
Through breathwork, meditation, mindful awareness, and when appropriate asana practice, yoga gives us practical tools to work with negative thought patterns rather than simply being controlled by them.
With consistent, long-term practice, yoga can contribute to neuroplastic changes the brain’s ability to adapt and form new patterns. Over time, this can help us develop healthier ways of thinking, responding and regulating our emotions. In that sense, sustained yogic practice can truly transform the person we become.
But there is an important distinction. 🌿
When symptoms of depression, anxiety, or another psychological condition are severe, yoga should not be viewed as an instant remedy or a replacement for professional medical care. Please consult a qualified doctor or mental-health professional, especially when symptoms are significant or persistent.
Modern medicine can be extremely important in reducing acute symptoms and stabilising the condition, while yoga can become a valuable complementary lifestyle practice for long-term wellbeing.
The goal is not to choose between medicine and yoga.
It is to use the right tool at the right time. 🤍
With patience and consistent practice, yogic techniques can help us gradually change deeply established patterns of thought, breath, attention and behaviour and create a healthier relationship with our own mind.
