Medical leeches have been used in Ayurveda for thousands of years as part of Raktamokshana (therapeutic bloodletting). This specialized treatment is known as Jalaukavacharana, where carefully selected medicinal leeches are applied to remove impure blood from a localized area. It is considered one of the safest forms of bloodletting, especially for delicate individuals and sensitive body regions.
Leeches secrete biologically active substances such as hirudin, which helps prevent blood clotting, improves local blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue healing. During treatment, the leech attaches to the affected area, feeds for approximately 20–45 minutes, and naturally detaches once it is full. The wound is then cleaned and dressed by the practitioner.

**Bamboo Cupping**

Bamboo cupping is a traditional Ayurvedic and holistic therapy that uses specially prepared bamboo cups to create gentle suction on the skin. This suction helps stimulate blood circulation, relax tight muscles, and encourage natural lymphatic drainage. The treatment may reduce muscle stiffness, relieve back, neck, and shoulder pain, improve flexibility, and promote deep relaxation. It is also commonly used as a supportive therapy for stress relief, fatigue, and overall wellness. Unlike fire cupping, bamboo cupping provides a smooth and comfortable experience while delivering similar therapeutic benefits. During the session, the therapist carefully places and moves the bamboo cups over the affected areas to improve circulation and support the body's natural healing processes. When performed by a trained practitioner, bamboo cupping is generally safe and can be combined with massage or other Ayurvedic therapies for enhanced results. It should always be used as a complementary therapy and not as a replacement for appropriate medical treatment.
