We’re pleased to continue leveraging medical technology for the benefit of our patients!

Recently on May 24, we implanted the Watchman FLX Left Atrial Appendage Closure device in an elderly patient with a high risk of stroke due to atrial fibrillation, which is an irregular heart rhythm that can lead to blood clots within the heart, and consequently stroke.

Such patients with atrial fibrillation are typically prescribed potent blood thinners to reduce their stroke risks, but this may cause bleeding issues if they have underlying medical problems such as cancer, stomach ulcers or liver and kidney diseases.
Supported by an experienced team of nurses and radiographers, this procedure was successfully performed by cardiologists Dr Paul Chiam, Dr Lim Yean Teng, and Dr Lim Choon Pin. It also marked the first time a hospital in Singapore and Southeast Asia used the newly-launched Watchman FLX device.

Through a minimally-invasive procedure, the Watchman FLX device is a permanent implant inserted into the heart’s left atrial appendage (a small pouch in the left upper heart chamber). This seals off the area where most blood clots are likely to form, significantly reducing stroke risks with the same degree of protection offered by blood thinners. More importantly, this device offers even greater patient safety with less side effects.

We've achieved another milestone in our mission to achieve better and safer treatment for our heart patients.
Called TricValve, this minimally invasive treatment is targeted at patients with heart failure due to tricuspid regurgitation (TR) or severe 'leaky' heart valves, and who are unsuitable for open-heart surgery.
This procedure was recently performed at Mount Elizabeth Hospital on 26 May 2022 and is the first for a private hospital in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Supported by an experienced team of nurses and radiographers, the procedure was successfully performed by cardiologists Dr Paul Chiam, Dr Charles Chan, and Dr Lim Choon Pin.
Involving a brief hospital stay, TricValve is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the implantation of 2 specially designed self-expanding valves via a blood vessel in the leg and placing them close to the chambers in the right side of the heart. These valves then expand in place to reduce the abnormal back flow of blood into the liver, kidney, neck, and head veins.
This doesn't just improve treatment outcomes for our heart patients with severe TR, but also focuses on their safety while helping them achieve a quicker recovery!
