JFK Strengthens Diagnostic Care with Expanded Access to Microbiology Laboratory Testing

The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) has expanded access to microbiology laboratory testing, including urine, blood, stool, sputum, and wound/swab cultures, as well as antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The services will help healthcare providers identify infection-causing microorganisms and determine appropriate antimicrobial treatment, strengthening diagnosis, patient care, and antimicrobial stewardship. The expansion also enhances Liberia’s diagnostic capacity, supports infection prevention and disease surveillance, and reduces the need for certain specialized tests to be conducted outside the country. Patients requiring microbiology testing are advised to visit the JFK Medical Center Laboratory and consult a healthcare provider for the appropriate test.

JFKMC Kicks Off Renovation of TNIMA Dormitory to Transform It into Classrooms and Offices to Address Space Constraints

MONROVIA - The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) has commenced the renovation and transformation of the former TNIMA dormitory, which has remained in a state of disrepair for several years, into modern offices and classrooms.

The project is intended to create additional space within the facility, TNIMA has occupied sections of the Memorial’s east wing, including the ground and first floors. The renovation is funded through the Government of Liberia’s Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP).

During the project kick-off meeting, the contractor, Companies Investment and Development Inc. committed to completing the renovation within six months, with the project expected to be finalized and handed over in February 2027.

On behalf of JFKMC Management, Deputy Administrator Mrs. Bendu Mensah expressed appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Minister of Health and Board Chair, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, for their continued support. Following the meeting, technicians and administrators toured the facility as renovation activities commenced.

MONROVIA - The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) Maternity Hospital has concluded a two-day validation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Antenatal Care, the Management of Common Obstetric Conditions, and the Administration of Antibiotics at the facility.

This milestone marks a crucial step toward standardizing healthcare delivery and ensuring that clinical protocols align with the highest standards of maternal and neonatal safety.

During the two-day session, multidisciplinary teams comprising healthcare professionals, midwives, and administrators meticulously reviewed each protocol to identify practical gaps and incorporate evidence-based practices.

By refining the guidelines for antenatal care, the hospital aims to strengthen the early detection and prevention of pregnancy-related complications.

Carter Center Donates Utility Vehicle to E.S. Grant Mental Health Hospital

MONROVIA – The E.S. Grant Mental Health Hospital has received a Toyota Land Cruiser utility vehicle donated by the Carter Center, marking an important milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen the hospital’s operational capacity. The vehicle was formally donated on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at about 12 noon.

The donation comes at a time when the hospital needs a dedicated utility vehicle to support its field operations. With the vehicle, the E.S. Grant Mental Health Hospital will be better positioned to facilitate official movements, transport essential supplies and equipment, support outreach activities, and improve the efficiency of services provided to patients and their families.

Mental health services require more than clinical care within the hospital setting. E.S.
